Quick glimpse of her while she was in Norway earlier this year.

For those who do not know, "Here Comes The Sun" has been back at Damen Yachting. She is getting some work done which involves lengthening the vessel...she is actually cut apart presently. She will be lengthened to 89-meters where the 6-meter extension is designed by Azure Naval Architects.. a helipad will go on the aft sun deck, her hull colour will be changed when she is resprayed as well. Layout changes will be made to key interior areas, another VIP cabin will be going on the bridge deck. The Beach Club will become even larger as well as the aft deck spaces thanks to the extra length.

Some features of that boat make me shake my head. That pool, without any safety rail (does not have to be permanent) is dangerous for guests and crews. This canvas is not worth the money, they have spend on it. Either solid SS guard rails (may be removable) or a lifting bottom like on Octopus.

Second, this step down on the aft platform will cause some broken bones, when guests or crews leave or enter the boat during night. Even if this area is well illuminated during night, shadows will hide this trap. I know, why it is there, it makes the room for opening the stern door but nevertheless it is bad design.

At least the new hull colour makes the boat look much better and the extension of the hull makes its overall proportions look much better also.

But I like her Design. Andrew Winch is one of my favorite designer.

Sorry, but it is still ONLY an Amels product. Putting a Mercedes Star or a Spirit of Ecstasy on the front of a Chinese car does not make a high quality car out of it :).

Maritna_ra, I give You 3 diligence points. At 5 points You will receive a kick scooter :p.

I am familiar with fact, that Tim Heywood is the favorite house designer of Damen. If You look for example at the Amels 212 class, they all look the same. Amels must have payed him only once for the design and they use the design again and again. That is the way this yard (and some other Dutch yards) works by beating a given design to death. They provide the building place and some project management. The steel work and most aluminum work is done at an inexpensive subcontrctor (by looking at the recent tows, meanwhile somewhere in the eastern Baltic), the machinery and piping with the next subcontractor, the electrics and Nav electronics with next two subcontractors. With the interior it may be a little different. That is the part, where the customers have the most prereferences. The interior manufactures may here be different on different ships, if it is not a spec ship. And finally the fairing and painting is done by the usual Greek or other eastern Med companies.

This is the usual way to make profit on relatively inexpensive yachts. High quality yachts are made differently.

I admit, I do not like Damen and Amels at all, because of personal experience.

    Just my 2 (Euro) cents

P.S. This should not be taken as general criticism on the Dutch Yachting and Shipbuilding industry. I have the highest opinion about companies like for example Royal Huisman, Vitters, Holland Yachtbouw, Moonen and even on some smaller companies like for example Linssen. The Netherland are a shipbuilding nation.

I don’t think that’s really a fair comparison. Maybe call if an entry level C class Mercedes versus a S class or Maybach.

I may have expressed myself drastically but that is what I wanted to get across. In my humble and personal opinion there are worlds between Amels and the top yards of this planet. The spread between a Maybach and the famous "Chinese car" is ok :D.

Not the first time I've heard this and not a surprise either. I 'limited' our coverage of Amels when they tried to strong arm our content.

Yep, that is the way, I have seen, how the Damen family works. I am a business man myself with thousands of employees, since my family called me in. But this is not my way of doing business and it never was. I am in the process of handing over the Group to the next generation, my children. And I am doing this with good conscience. I can look into the eyes of our customers and business partners with the head held high. Cheating and strong-arm tactics were never neccessary.
