It's like the girl who wears a sexy dress. She wants to impress or attract someone but gets annoyed when the wrong people admire her. If you make a public spectacle of yourself you're stuck with the audience you get. You don't cruise on a big yacht or in a million dollar car without wanting to showing off.

Nycap I think he put people off with the middle finger comment. As if owning a yacht is an intentional middle finger to those that don’t own yachts or others who own smaller yachts or boats. Don’t think I am the target of the OP with a 54 footer but still it seems like an effort to demonize those who have achieved and chosen to spend on a big yacht. It seems to have an element of class warfare. I am in the middle of a biography on Mao Tse Tung and the wealthy were the first target and when they finished with the wealthy, they terrorized the middle class, and finally the peasants. My point is today it is the person with an 80 footer or more, tomorrow it will be the people with any boats. Day after tomorrow if might be one who owns a home and a car. I understand that income disparity is an issue but we are in a very dangerous cultural environment right now and I think the original post reflects that. I wonder if the culture war is really a war between the productive and the non productive.

That is such total BS, Nycap. I cruise on a larger boat because it's what it takes for us and our friends to cruise on and what it takes to handle the waters we intend to cruise on. You can't take 13 people to the Caribbean in a 12' rowboat.

Yeah that probably wasn't the best way to endear himself to the members. People will always be jealous of anyone who has more, and the more inequity there is the more dangerous it will become, but everyone has to do their own risk calculations. The fact remains that the more of a spectacle people make of themselves the more of an audience they'll attract. When most animals feed the Alpha gets first dibs but they generally leave something for the betas and the runt. A lot of humans don't understand the reasoning in that. When the average executive salaries have risen over 900% and the average wage earner's only 7% there's going to be resentment. For the robber barons led to anti-trust and income tax; "Let them eat cake" led to more dire results. Btw, the average person can not afford a 50' yacht or even a 30' one. It's always the other person we think of a rich.

Yeah, I have the same problem when we go to White Castle with friends, but I resist the urge to buy a stretch limo.

Right. Or my favorite pre statement of all time, "let me be honest with you", you can bet the next statement or the previous statement was not based in truth or honesty. So obvious.

I don't believe this at all. I have many customers that buy a certain size yacht because it meets the needs of their family. Staterooms and things of that nature. Then they go larger because as they become more experienced their cruising range expands. Then once they have grandkids they go even larger to accomodate parents and grandkids. Sure a small percentage of owners buy yachts to show off, but the majority of them aren't looking to show off.

“People will always be jealous”?? Hell no. I, like most, applaud success and have nothing but respect for the guy who can afford a bigger boat! Unless he s mob boss, drug dealer or some hypocrite who claims to represent the little people. You know... like that Kerry guy who had a big sailboat built overseas then home ported it in Newport to avoid sales tax in his home state of taxachussets.

Pascal, I removed one remark from your last post. When you create cavitation, it disrupts laminar flow.

I have suspended the membership of NYCap until further notice.
