    I am buying an 08 Azimut 68S with the following twin poweplant. Any advice or suggestions will be tremendously appreciated. Any typical Problems? Are they reliable and long lasting of course with good maintenance.

    No first hand experiences on the 1360, but a boating mate of mine has the 1224 on a 2006 Ferretti, and he's quite happy with them.
    Back then, MAN offered their V12 in either 1224 or 1360 rating, and I don't think there were any differences between them, other than ECU tuning.
    I am attaching the specs sheet of both, just in case you didn't already see it.
    For the records, the 1360 remains the most powerful MAN V12 ever built on the "old" MAN block, fully Mercedes-Benz derived.
    After that, they completely redesigned the basement, slightly increasing the stroke (hence the displacement, up to 24 from 22 liters), in order to withstand more power, which afterwards was progressively increased up to the current 2000hp.

    We have a 2012 Riva with V12 1360's. Engines have performed very well. However, I have no idea how they might or might not differ from 2008. We are huge fans of MAN engines of recent vintage, however.

    My advice is to follow the MAN maintenance schedule religiously and you won't have problems. Obviously though you're subject to what the previous owner did so survey and maintenance history both crucial.

    Does or has anyone done any tuning for MAN marine diesel engines? I know most are not interested however the S series Azimut being the sport version i am not just looking for luxury but also speed, when the mood calls.

    Haven't needed to try such as ours will top 40 knots and cruises comfortably around 36 knots. I don't know what it will do in the Azimut.

    The Azimut should run about 35 knots and cruise around 28-30 knots.

    That is exactly right and I would like to be much closer to 40 if possible.

    No such thing on Rivas.
    I believe the boat OB mentions is faster that the AZ 68S with the same engines simply because is smaller (63', IIRC).
    On the AZ 68S, it would take 300 more ponies each side to gain 5 kts, if not more.
    You really don't want to pimp those engines for a power increase in excess of 20%, even assuming it is possible.
    And I don't think it is, anyway.

    No not surface drives and accept what the boat will do. If you make 34 or even 36 knots in a 68', you will be among the fastest in your size and style. A lot of difference between 63' and 68' with the same engines, but you can spend tons trying to get more and gain nothing but a million headaches and problems.

    Where are you going to be running a production Boat like this at 30-35 kts? Better be in a protected bay....

    Well, plenty of places but he doesn't have enough range to run it on his Mexico trip at those speeds. Perhaps once he's down a ways. Some great runs in the Gulf of California. We run off the coast of FL at 30-35 knots all the time and have run up the coast to SC and even on the Gulf side of FL Before then pandemic, quick runs to Bimini or even occasional fast crossings to Nassau.
