Maybe it's just in my DNA, but there are few sounds better than a Porsche 911. Put it in the woods, and it only gets better.

Those bits of the clip with the cars on the limiter in top gear... oh, so, good!

To help those who may have hurt their eyes seeing the green monster posted above, today marks the 60th anniversary of the unveiling of the E-type at the Geneva Motor Show. So... rinse your eyes on these pictures.

Things were simpler back then... the two cars Jaguar brought to Geneva were actually driven from Coventry, England.

    third picture is mine...

Sir Jack was a friend of both my Grandpas. They all pretty much lived in the same area. Grandpa Norman was from a family of tent makers, we supplied the British Army with canvas through the Boer War. WW1 and WW2. The World would look very differently without that win from the Nazi jackboot (until Trump).

Grandpa Jack was of a very different tack, Ducking and diving within the motor industry, he probably sold more cars in post-war Britain than anyone else.

They both had access to the Jaguar factory and got the newest cars. They both got the Mk11 saloons on day one, in white. Grandpa Jack managed to roll his car within half a mile of having it. Luckily the City Counsil had raked all the old leaves at the park into a pile and he landed in those. Not a mark or scratch.

That's where my love of Jags comes from. I had a clapped out XJC 4.2, 2 door coupe in the South of France. It was worth more than my apartment.

We used to be moored stern-to at the swimming pool for years, great viewing spot for the GP.

Yep, watched a lot of the historic races on Sunday.

Maybe getting a 2008 335i convertible (metal folding roof). Never had a BMW before, wouldn’t have gone looking for one but you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth :). Anyone familiar with these? Seems to have pretty good reviews overall.

    Mileage?
They can get expensive once the mileage gets up on them .

I think it was Enzo Ferrari that stated the classic jag e-type was the most beautiful car in the world. He certainly knew something about good design! I think the new Merc AMG-GT captures some of the original e-type elements. Gorgeous car Pascal!!

Only 30k miles. Yeah apparently the high pressure fuel pump and injectors can be a problem and not cheap. The turbos too if abused which this one hasn’t.

You nailed the weak spots in that car. With only 30K and not abused. If the price is a good deal, go for it.
I tried to buy an 09 with 19K on it a couple months back. I wasn't fast enough.

EVERYTHING is a problem on BMW's and NOTHING is cheap about maintaining them. My sister's 2020 3 series BMW is getting the engine replaced right now under warranty with 20k miles because it developed a knock in the engine for no reason at all.

Every high end modern car is complex and expensive to maintain... the key once a car is out warranty is to find the right independent specialist in that brand. I ll have to ask around for recommendations.

I use a Jaguar specialist all the way up in Boca Raton. Been using him for 20+ years for my E-type as well as for an XKR I used to have once it was out of warranty. Same with the Alfa’s, we have an excellent and reasonable specialist

We also have a very good old fashioned mechanic who handles all our basic maintenance so we should be covered for most repairs.

When it comes to cars, the way I see is there are two options. Buy a new car covered by warranties but either spend a lot of money of payments and depreciation or stick to older cars and spend some money on maintenance. After loosing about $10k a year in depreciation on that new 2000 XKR, nowadays I prefer older cars.

    Actually same thing with boats...

Aye, I had one of those in Alaska, way out on the tundra in a Eskimo village called Bethel.
It was stock with 4 wheel drive and the transfer case, but had big off road tires, which came in handy one day in January 1984 when I inadvertently went off-roading after a cup of grog too much: The road T-boned and instead of going left, or right, I went straight: Through the snowbank, down the ditch and on to the tundra, all at slow speed in the dark. Those big tires and the low gearing saved the day as I backed slowly up hill through the bushes and back on what could barely be called a road, turned left, got home to my shack and celebrated the old Bronco flown in to Bethel courtesy of the FAA on a C-123.
Great SUV, before SUVs were cool.

90E58CD7-D15E-46A5-8DA0-186D3ADF1E83.jpeg Don’t know if I consider it an exotic but **** if it ain’t fun. 2005 Porsche Boxster s, suspension and brake work, racing seats, wheels from a panamera turbo (powdercoated bronze) Rs60 front splitter and gauge pod top, cayman spoiler. Oh and a turbo kit. Good for 460hp, light car too so that 460 goes a long way. Picture taken just now at work so she’s dirty (not my daily driver but I love to drive it as much as possible)

I’d be lying if I said she hasn’t seen the track (not drag racing) Hoping to take her a few more times.
