new to me 1999 Oceans 40 express

    So in final stages on closing deal on a 1999 oceans 40 express. I boat of Merrimac river and have been for last 6-7 seasons. My two prior boats were a 96 Pursuit Denali then my recent 87 Silverton 34C. Ive sea trialed the vehicle and was over joyed by amount of control compared to the silveton, really no comparison I know. Interested in any other insights to this unique model ocean. Two major factors in my decision to go this route rather then a 42 egg were the versatility. I want to go out more and fish. I didn't want a dock queen in this stage of my life. Anyways thank you all and look forward to this forum and its combined wisdom and knowledge.

    I’ve had a 1998 40 convertible With cat 3126 for 4 years, love the boat but had to rebuild one engine last year at 2300 hours likely Due to the Known soft block issue, one cylinder was worn, others perfect. Still very happy with the boat!

    I've always loved the set up of that 40 Express, raised deck, etc. If you find a clean one that passes survey and mechanical survey, that's great. I think they are a nice compromise on things. Several sleeping option along with good running visibility and fishing room in the back.

    Has anyone ever shipped over the road a 40 ocean express. I purchased a 40 ocean express in Rhode Island and I’m looking to have it shipped to Michigan in April. Would appreciate any feedback.

    Congrats on new boat. I seen that boat on yacht world boat trader ext. looks very nice. I never had mine going down highway but when I considered bringing to indoor storage they mentioned removing hard top and I wanted zero part of that. Good luck and enjoy. I’ve had zero complaints for a 21 year old boat.

    I generally don't like boats being transported over the road, but these days your options are very limited due to Covid. Just make sure that the person responsible for removing tops, arches, towers, etc. be the same person responsible for it going back together. I've seen several boats turned to rattle-traps with the transporter blaming the installer and the installer blaming the transporter and those who took it apart. You know where that leaves the owner. Shop transporter by reputation not price. The good news is that you have some good / experienced transporters in R.I. although if it comes down to suing afterwards contracting in Michigan would be better.

    To each his own but some of my best trips have been delivering my new to me boats back home after purchase. Unless it's landlocked I'm gathering up some friends and planning trip.

    Unless he can wait till spring and even then maybe only if he can get under 15', depending on Covid restrictions at the time, he may have no choice.
    I've done that run a couple of times, and yes it'd be a trip I wouldn't miss unless necessary.
