Thank you for the insight. I can see them wanting to get their moneys worth.

Why didn’t you choose to do overnights?

Strict rules may be an answer, but most people don't charter boats to hear the word "no". I think Brian G's term "gracious tenacity" is great but I've met very few people capable of delivering that, especially when their day's pay or gratuity is at stake.

    Aha, Johnson 70.
I skippered one of those 15 years ago, it was brand new then.
It had 2 x Man 1350 hp electronic controlled engines and 2 x Sleipner thrusters @ 25 hp each. (They changed name to Sidepower)

    Same boat maybe?
We didn’t do no charters, strictly private boat, I took the owner and his family out a few times now and then. He invited me to take the boat out whenever I wanted, just to run it. (He lived in South Carolina, the boat was here in Fort Lauderdale, so was I)
Took him up on it now and then with my wife, or my buddies.
    Cool gig.

I don't do overnights because it seems to be a much bigger commitment than a 4 or 8 hour day cruise. I don't especially want to wake up with a boat full of strangers that I have to entertain and serve. Also, multiday charters require a whole lot more food and planning. We might end up going that route down the road but for now we haven't.

I bought it three years ago from owners in Hilton Head, SC but it has 2 x CAT 3412e engines so it's got to be a different boat.

Yes, the right crew makes all the difference in the world. In their safety spiel, they warn people about becoming intoxicated which increases the possibly of someone getting hurt or falling overboard. They're told that the charter will be terminated immediately without a refund if that happens for safety reasons. I also installed cameras inside and outside the boat so I can monitor the charters when I'm not there. Things can get crazy which is the worst part of letting strangers use your pride and joy.

You have the 3412Es, right? Was that the one From HH with a .... “safari bordelo” interior? :)

that a what I was running on charter. Great bait with a huge aft deck and platform.

Yes, that's me. When my girlfriend wears a leopard print bathing suit, she blends right into the salon sofa. :)

Today we saw a few charter boats around Miami waters. One of them had a rowdy group which included one guest dancing on the edge of the swim platform (40ish Sundancer). I doubt the captain even notices he was down there

while not a charter, There was an interesting exchange on 16 between one of the tour boats calling “any law enforcement” requesting help with three passengers fighting... initially Sector Miami, with USCG station just a mile away didn’t seem to care telling the captain to call FWC. Eventually they dispatched a small boat.

I was envisioning well dressed country club type guests on the SWFL coast but I am beginning to appreciate your point.

Yes, most in Miami were doing the 12 person bareboat charter agreement, but of course making the charterer use their Captain. So working a loophole that wasn't exactly a loop hole. Nobody wants to rent a yacht in Miami and can only bring 5 of their friends.

Drifter, if you do plan to charter, make sure you are totally legal. Here in FL, there have been many "Charter" boats busted as they were not designated for charter, carrying too many people, or some of each. Make sure you determine if you are an uninspected vessel or larger, don't exceed the headcount, and can be ready to show all documents to the CG as chances are you will be boarded sometime. South Florida has been hit hard with illegal charters and boarding by authorities. I for one am glad because we need to keep the bad seeds out.
