Seasoned yacht owners in the process of purchasing a Westport 112' seeking captain with excellent soft skills including: a strong work ethic, emotional intelligence / communication, self-motivation, flexibility, time management, leadership, and responsibility. While hard skills and experience are required, the strong soft skills are an absolute requisite. Captain to be integral in cleaning and maintenance and not just a managerial role. Looking to identify excellent candidate and establish long-term relationship and will properly incentivize the right candidate. Hands-on owners that enjoy yacht ownership, but need to find the right crew.

Private yacht and itinerary will include Caribbean, South Florida, Carolinas, and New England.

I can highly recommend Brendan. He was my first officer for several years, and remains a good friend. I actually saw your post, and forwarded it to him.

FYI- you should remove your email from this thread, as it will surely become BOT food.

Other than your posting of your email, I do like your approach to identifying and hiring the right Captain. It shows that you understand the relationship you're attempting to build. In our approach, which yours seems similar to, yacht crew isn't just employees but we recognize for much of the year, they are our housemates, our travel companions, and hopefully our friends. Now, for us, eight years into this, they're family to us. Shared values and approaches are important. Trust is essential. Today, our managing captains, who came first, are like a beloved uncle and aunt. Our chief engineer and chief stew who are closer to our age are best friends and the rest of our crew like nieces we love and adore. I know many still treat crew as simply staff and care only about their boat skills, their hard skills using your labels.

I will also say that if someone is highly recommended by Ken Bracewell, I'd immediately be in touch with them as I know and share Ken's standards and approach.
