I once got chastised by a member who took offense to me using the term "Stupid Money" meaning they have such a ridiculous amount of it that it means nothing, and all the money in the world won't earn them respect. "Who have more dollars than sense" is an apt description of it. ;)

Haulover used to be my inlet, and there is a lot of truth to that statement. We used to see a lot of low speed mishaps at the sand bar, too. Anytime we went out on a weekend with the tide running, there was something to see in the inlet, though. I don't remember the jet skis being so thick back then, though!

Bow rider boats, lots- O - current, opposing waves, and passengers forward = swamped boat. Or in this case ejected passengers or broken back etc. They should be outlawed. Poor design, unsafe and NOT the place to be sitting in a speed boat, forward.
Saw many a bow riderboat swamp and sink in the old Point Pleasant Canal N.J. Rt. 88 bridge . The least he could have done was pull it back to idle as soon as possible to render assistance. Trying to turn around would have been worthless IMO and would have taken up to much time. Reverse...maybe even a bigger problem. No doubt it was a bad situation. Thank god the jet skiers were around.

When I watch those videos I wonder how many of the people in the bow suffer back problems after their behinds come down on a boat on it's way up. It looks painful to begin with.

The skipper of the boat should know better than to allow people to ride up front at an inlet as rough as that. Or maybe he is trying to get rid of his wife ?

No from what I can make out the girl who got launched looked too cute to intentionally get rid of.:D Bowriders are nice for cruising around calm waters, and everyone wants to ride there, but they are very dangerous. When heading into rough water all passengers must get to the back.

We had a wonderful 30' bowrider in NC. Great boat on the lake. Perfect boat for the lake. When we got ready to move to the coast, we left it on the lake and sold it on the lake and miss it on the lake. But we recognized, as much as we loved it, that it was a lake boat and not for the ocean. I might add that even on the lake we didn't let anyone ride in the bow area on busy days or when going fast. It was for relaxing and going slow or just sitting around, but not for high speed use or rough Sunday's.

When looking at videos from Haulover inlet you can quickly differentiate between the good, the bad and the ugly. The ugly usually are those in smaller boats (not just BRs but CCs as well) who go thru the it’s a bunch of people sitting up front.... it can be very entertaining to watch... far more than Below deck or the Drama Queens of the Bering Seas aka Deadliest Catch.

I have seen this before; He may have been on Auto Pilot.
The AP compass went for a spin near all that steel and transformers, So did the the boat.
I have witnessed yachts at speed do this in Jax. The St Johns channel is along the Talleyrand and Blount Island terminals. Suddenly these boats take a quick turn, Sometimes rite into the moored ship.
SPS does not only effect PWC owners.
APs do a fine job of drawing a nice straight line. I do use mine in the river straights, but not near any structure or other boats (ships).

    Another SPS activist

    https://www.news4jax.com/news/local...pected-cant-be-raised-after-boating-accident/

On the snews tonight, Inbound, 6 people were on board. Racing a closing bridge and lost. 4 were thrown. 2 rode the wrecked boat up into a back yard on the south bank.
It is believed those 2 went to the hospital, one in serious condition.
Local videos showing boats and yachts in the StJohns River waiting for Ortega River bridge inspections to complete before the bridge can open again.

    Update? Uh?
Sad, there is no update from Jax local snews.
Local word (not the media) is the bridge was re-opened late last night. Inspections continued today.

I've seen that a few times on new Sea Rays. I think that job on the assembly line went to a dyslexic.
