    OK Sir rtrafford and all

    Anybody remember the ole VHF radio / telephone hand sets?
    Looked like an old phone receiver.
    Sometimes in my lower wheel house at speed, the exhaust noise is a bit loud. I think I could use one on my Icom or Simrad radios.
    Yes, some Frankinsting needed, I can do it.

    I remember my ole Pierce Simpson 6 channel crystal vhf set with the telephone hand set. Flying in the wind and weather on an ole 20' Thompson open.
    All could hear me and I could hear all well. My ears were better then also.

    I don' think mine survived. But there are certainly headsets out there that might be freaknected to the system?

    Just as an example...I know one of mine is a remote mic plug with a speaker in the handheld mic. Seems like that plug would provide everything a headset would want. I'm just not certain I want to be forced to listen to the person on the other end of that connection...:) But your issue is exactly why I went for the versions with the speaker in the mic. I'm sure that I look a little odd to anyone watching me put the mic to my ear...

    Not a nerd head set. I have to use them already when I drive.
    Just found this.
    The original Icom and P/S hand sets had a holder/hanger; when not in use a switch in them would enable the radio or remote speaker.

    Mine do the same. Dam mics and my ear & face don't work together. When I hold it up tight to my ear, a button gets pressed.

    My glass of rum typically nets a similar result.

    Another possible improvement would be mounting a quality remote speaker in the overhead/headlining right above your better ear when standing at the helm. Just about all VHF's have speaker outputs. I've done this on a few yachts, and the improvement in speaker quality alone makes a big difference.

    Two additional issues beyond that, The mic would be close and with a muff, only get my voice.
    And the number one reason I want one;;
    It looks cool...

    Wish I had know you wanted one. Took one off our 1988 Viking last year. I can’t remember if I pitched it because I didn’t think anyone would want or if the pack rat in me sent it home. I am at the boat and not sure when I am going home but I will check and let you know then. If I have it you are welcome to it.
