Flames from the bow of one and the superstructure of the other. Odd. One would more expect the engine room or galley. Thankfully nobody (especially the responders) was hurt. Hopefully the investigation will be thorough.

Looks like the reporter considers anything forward of the aft deck to be the bow. lol.

I spoke with my Insurance broker late last week asking why they are giving me so much grief about surveys. He said the entire underwriting yacht industry is experiencing huge losses. We will all feel the pain in premiums, surveys and renewal scrutiny.

If they've been experiencing losses during the high times of the past 10 years they're in for a shock if the economy goes the way many are expecting. Today's burn was undoubtedly an accident, but back in '08 - '10 (when it was hard to even give boats away) more than a few boats suffered losses due to poor maintenance , questionable fires and sinkings. Maybe insurance companies aren't such a great investment.

I think it's the size of the losses. There have been many fires and flooding of very expensive yachts in the recent past.

I just hope the two fires not too far from each other are really accidental. What are the odds, within minutes

Third fire is a bit later and not similar as it was a boat in use on the ICW.

My guess is lightening strike or power surge...…..both boats probably on the same grid. But, who knows.

Problem is that investigation results are never published which is a shame as we could all learn for these incidents.

that s quite a strong of boats fires, 3 had also gone up in smoke at Crandon Marina on Key Biscayne just 2 weeks ago

At some point one stops believing in coincidences.

9 boats in 2 weeks? Wouldn't wan to be a boat salesperson in So. Florida (or any place else people have heard about it) right now. This on top of Covid19 and the economy. And about those rising insurance premiums.

I couldn't speculate about the two up river or the 3 Pascal mentioned in the Crandon marina, but the one on the ICW and the 3 that burned in the marina at 1030 this morning I doubt could be anything but accident or mechanical / electrical. I saw a lot of speculation about arson with some but I have a hard time seeing anybody intentionally starting a boat fire in a marina. The risk of lives lost is too great. Arson gets a lot of years in prison, never mind taking a chance of adding homicide. Can't be good for boat sales or insurance premiums though.

I think there is reason for suspicion over the two fires in Miami. The one in the ICW would have no connection.

There may also be suspicion on the two on the New River, but I doubt it.

As to having a hard time believing anyone would set a fire in a marina, arsonists do things all the time that are hard to believe. Often they do them for no apparent benefit to themselves other than just seeing things burn. Sometimes they have personal reasons.

Trying to apply reason to arson just isn't something you can do.

I'm not saying any of it is arson, but I am saying if I was with the city fire department I'd be giving that a strong consideration for the investigation.

As to hurting boat sales, it created more buyers as some need to replace boats now. Just kidding as I know it's harmful to the industry.
