The trade wars have been an ongoing tool for a couple of years with this Administration, and the costs of raw materials hasn't "risen substantially". The outcome here should very much be that much of the critical manufacturing comes back to the USA. In fact those trade wars had already for the most part resulted in new trade agreements that would have stabilized that product cost.

If prices rise substantially it's because the resources are still "held hostage" by sick zones outside of our country. We have to correct that going forward.

I hate the words “trade wars”. Standing up for your country, for your economy, for your workers isn’t a war. We can’t accept that our goods get taxed coming into other countries while we let everything else come in duty free.

because for 20, 30 years or more our leaders have accepted getting ripped off doesn’t mean we re declaring war. And when I say our leaders I mean it in a non political way. Neither Obama, Bush or Clinton did anything to protect our workers and our industries. No politics! both sides of the aisle share responsibility

With its virus China didn’t act as a responsible member of the world community and shows no intention of doing so in the future. If they did, they would shut down their wet markets and cooperated with the rest of the world. Again, no politics there! Just one large country which has caused massive harm to the rest of the world.

Have to agree resin prices should decrease with less demand and cheaper oil. Watched a couple of market Guru's last week discussing the printing of dollars, one said the Fed doesn't have to do that anymore, a couple of key strokes to credit an account, poof... digital dollars, then buy your own bonds at almost zero interest to finance whatever. Also, said they can print more dollars if needed. The Fed has been doing this since the 08 meltdown. Has the Fed discovered Utopia?

I took 10% of the value of my unloved small business of 35 years and purchased .14% of a recently unloved US business ... Alcoa Aluminum. I can't help it. I'm a lover.

Well said Pascal, no politics just facts! Maybe we can get back to being self sufficient.

Trade wars have been ongoing for decades. We just realized it and began to fight back.

Not to drift the thread too far, but to compare what this crisis is doing to my business.... the airlines. These are staggering numbers in a memo my boss sent out today......(ONE of the big 4)
So unless they come in their own airplane.... there's no people flying around looking at boats.

Scary numbers. Have not seen any numbers for boat sales, only boat show cancellations. Surely someone is keeping score.

I think this year will be a total wash out for many businesses and especially forms of entertainment. I don't believe Major League Baseball or Minor League will have a 2020 season, I don't believe the NBA will resume and I think, at best, the NFL will have a very late start. I think hotels in resort areas will lose the entire summer as will theme parks.

I think those areas with short boating seasons just won't have a 2020 season. I think boat dealers in most areas won't have a 2020 sales year. Now, as to boat sales in places like Florida, I do see a resumption sometime in the fall.

For builders of large boats, it's no big deal as they're shut down while boat sales are and they'll likely resume about the same time. However, for manufacturers tied heavily to seasonal boating, people like Sea Ray, Bayliner, Glastron, Cobalt, and all the others, this will be a missed year. They're have no real business until after January 1 and that will be deflated by holdover inventories of their dealers, so essentially they'll lose an entire 12 months plus some.

It's a safe bet that people isolating on a yacht aren't going to get much sympathy (even though most of us know how small a boat can get, especially with the wrong people aboard), but the article points out some serious obstacles. One it missed though is what do you do if someone on your yacht comes down with the virus or anything else, and you're not permitted to leave the boat for medical treatment. It could become a ghost ship.

For all intensive purposes a liveaboard yacht is seen as the same priveledges as a house. By the IRS, civil laws, etc. it is considered a domicile. There is nothing keeping someone infected with the virus from leaving their house. So why would a yacht be any different, IF it's someone's house. Now, I don't think anyone infected should be leaving their house and going ANYWHERE except for medical treatment.

Different story. But they'd also have the same issue in a house in a foreign country as a non citizen and subject to whatever laws they have for foreign citizens.

Doubt too many are traveling to foreign shores these days other than cruisers and mariners.

TORONTO -- The Canada-U.S. border will remain closed to non-essential travel for another 30 days in an effort to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has confirmed.

On Saturday morning, Trudeau said the current border measures, which were due to expire on April 21, will be extended for another 30 days.

“This is an important decision and one that will keep people on both sides of the border safe," Trudeau said during his daily briefing outside Rideau Cottage in Ottawa on Saturday.
