Hi All, I have a bit of a problem on my yacht that I run. Recently a string of alarms has come onto my stbd engine. So what happens is that I am cruising and my stbd engine cuts out. Starting with the code AL EMERGENCY DISENGAGE then onto a string of alarms afterwards when the engine does a security shut down. I have contacted MTU and they have determined it is a SEAFIRE problem that is meddling with the operations. They have done volts test on the SEAFIRE box and the 24v systems is operating normally. My question is that, has anyone experienced this before? And also if you have how did you solve it.

    Many thanks

I have experienced intermittent failures with the seafire box causing issues such as this. They have had issues with them. The Seafire box is $3-400 and easy to change. Look at the seafire display when this occurs and see if the display is dimming and getting brighter or showing discharged. What does the pressure read on your seafire bottle? It would be easy enough to find the seafire box, and remove the shut down wire for each engine from the relay box.

If your Sea-Fire display has a By-Pass switch, hit that during non official (No Pax) operation and see if your problem goes away.
Bad wire crimps on the box can also cause problems.

The box wire connections are poke and stick. Hendrik, this is the box you're looking for:

    That's from the SeaFire site.

Fire Boy has bass ackwards relays for the bottle connect.
The older boxes came in yellow and white also from both vendors.
Think I still have a yellow one in the warehouse.

No, Fireboy/xintex has similar to Seafire which is what I've seen on several boats. Scroll down and See the ELS and ES series in the link below. They've been around quite a while. I had one go bad on a late 90's Fairline.

Hi Guys, So Ive had the Sea Fire official technicians here today and they have done many simulations and tests and the box is working fine. So now back to MTU again to see if they have had situations like this before. I think its better to go straight to MTU Germany on this one and explain exactly whats going on. BTW its sea fire block box for you discussion.

Just to refresh you guys on what happens whilst cruising:

This ussually happens if Im on passage, like after 6 hrs of so. And it happens sporadically, it can happen in 10 hrs again or 2 hrs. So its maybe something affected by heat? Engines are perfect working order says MTU. So I loose power immediately on stbd, the engine does a auto power down and then shuts off. This whole process take around 10 sec. Alarms starts as:

    AL emergency disengage - Blue
    AL emergency disengage - Red
    AL emergency disengage - Red
SPN combined sensor alarm - RED
    RCS combine alarm - red
AL Lo p-gear Oil - Red (due to engine shutoff)
AL alternator faluire - Red (due to engine shutoff)
    SS Security Shutoff - Yellow
    SS security Shutoff - Red.

Thank you so far for all your inputs.
    Safe sailing

When I had a seafire box go bad, that is what happened. It didn't do it right away, it did it after hours of running. On the two I changed, both were mounted in the engine room, so perhaps heat or vibration had something to do with it. After several hours of running and it would then shut something down. I would just change it for as cheap as it is. Intermittent problems are the hardest to figure out. The MTU tech should be able to find in the history if the box sent a shutdown code. Another idea is possibly if you have exterior stop buttons, one of them is shorting out when getting sea spray on it.
