The Exumas aren’t about marinas. It s about anchoring in amazingly beautiful anchorages and there are dozens and dozens untouched by the tour boats or large number of anchored boats.

Beach etiquette in Exuma “dictates” that if someone is already on a beach you go to the next one... our guests rarely have to share their beach. Even in Warderick Wells... there are usually fewer boats in the moorings than there are beaches along Emerald morning field.

And when going past Staniel which few boats do, it is even better.

Even down in Gtown, where everybody sticks together by Chat n Chill if you go just a couple of miles south you will likely be alone with great beaches and sandbars

There is nothing like it anywhere. Not in the Bahamas, not in the Caribbean. Have you been to the keys lately? It sucks unless you want to fish or dive. And it s just an hour flight from FL or a single day run for most boats.

The Bahamas government doesn’t have to worry about competition

Most of my owners are in the 60-70' range. Not all yachts have a chef ,nor want to be on anchor and generator. A lot of my customers want to go to a restaurant at night (they want to be on vacation, not cook) or at least most nights. They also don't want to worry about dragging anchor if a storm comes up. I also always have 1 or 2 that want to get off the boat at their leisure early in the morning or another time and go for a run, or a walk. Sampson was perfect, quiet, everyone was respectful that stayed there, plenty of paths to walk or run on, just enough stuff (restaurant etc.) and nothing more. The last trip we had 6 guests, and anchored in 4 different places 4 nights and stayed in marina's 3 nights. I had a mate, but the marina's are a lot less work, just the whole deal of putting everything in and out of the water every night and every morning. Also various other things, cooking, clean up after the cooking, and on and on.

I just stayed in Warderick Wells and it was nice, I like the mooring field there. My one set of owners really like Shroud, but there's only 2 mooring balls. I anchored there, but feel more secure on a mooring ball.

It comes down to personal preferences. It s different for us as both owners and most charter guests prefer being on the hook. Also as full time we have the boat setup for anchoring... first thing i did on th Lazzara, like i did back ahen i got on th johnson 70 years ago is upgrade the anchor so neither i or the owner or the guest has to worry about dragging in the middle of the night

And both Noami and i love cooking and playing chef so having access to restaurants doesnt matter. Esepcially now that we have room for a third crew on the 84, cleaning isnt a worry anymore.

    But again, personal preferences

What a whiny a.....le. No change of rules. He was clearly in violation and not a bareboat charter and likely lacking safety equipment as well. Learn the rules. Follow the rules. If you want the law changed, then work on it, but as clearly stated there's nothing new about these rules. I also have a change I'd like to see, stiffer penalties. He was lucky to basically just have a cancelled charter. Would love to see the ad for the charter.

The rules are a lot clearer than the article... I guess journalism is dead.

The rules are clear and the USCG has done a lot of outreach over the last 2 years to make it even clearer.

I m sure this guy’s ad was similar to this one... pontoon boat advertising 10 people incl fuel captain champagne etc. completely illegal.

    At the beginning of my SeaSchool Captains prep classes;
OUPV, COI, what you can and can not do as a captain were discussed in depth.
I don't remember any test questions, but made sense to understand these topics as it was why we were studying for our MMDs.
If these whining lil jerks don't understand simple commercial operations, then they are a hazard and should be locked up for being stupid.

The average IQ is 100. This means that half the people around you are stupid and too dumb to know it. That's a lot of locking up....

So stupid people don't know their stupid.
That's why there is no law controlling stupid people.

A legal charter today, but too windy to keep the Bimini top up.
Had to take it down @ 25 knots gusting 35.
Anchored in Lake Sylvia for 30 minutes between wind gusts and here is Capt. J again taking a picture of Odin. (Small world, second time in 3 weeks)

Going to be busy tomorrow loading up for another run to Great Turtle Cay Tuesday. :(

I know that (not so) blue water Bluewater . He used to be on my pier. AFAIK it s the owner running the boat as a bareboat. People complained here as his guests would get back drunk and puke on the dock.

Yup, heard the same bad news about that operation..

We will be in the Bay Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Vacation really, not expecting to do any business, but if the Captain is still sober, he will certainly take guests out for a cruise late morning or early PM.
Got all the paperwork and equipment on the boat, ready to roll.
Will take a least one night on the hook at Coon Point, skinny dipping and checking zincs and bottom paint.
