A friend just went through Coinjock on the ICW, and informed me that Louis, owner of Coinjock Marina (mm 50) recently bought Midway Marina on the other side of the ditch.

My friend thinks that Louis is going to use the Midway restaurant for catering only. Don't know if Lou will provide transportation across the waterway for your prime rib fix!:D
    Happy cruising.

Glad to see him expanding and hope it goes well. As far as his prime rib, I had it once and one of the few places in the country I will never eat prime rib again. In my opinion, not good. Seems to be very mixed opinions on his food, especially his prime rib.

I don't eat meat but I do eat desert and that's been the highlight of my meals at Coinjock. I like the throwback atmosphere. It's like being in a time machine.

It’s not about the food, it’s about the experience.

I ve stopped there a few times and had dinner there once. Once was enough. Prime rib and rest of dinner was average, service was slow and the place was too hot...

The experience is getting bad food, which to me is a bad experience. Sorry, I'm not on the bandwagon. Now, when we stop there, we cook and eat on the boat. Makes the experience of Coinjock nice.

I got stuck at Coinjock for mechanical reasons for four days, ate lunch and dinner, and was happy with nearly everything I had. I concede the atmosphere has a lot to do with the positive experience along with Louis’ friendly demeanor as well as the rest of the staff. The restaurant is famous, and that fame may lead to greater expectations than it is reasonable to expect from a small town restaurant on the waterway, particularly given the price point. It remains one of my favorite stops.

I always stopped both ways. Probably about 32+ trips. Cheap fuel and good dockage. I liked to eat there, it was a break from eating my own food!:D
We'd usually hang out in the office with Louis and Norman drinking beer that we'd buy in the store and eating Newsoms peanut brittle.

My next stop southbound was River Farst.
Remember Axon, Mamma, and Enoch? I've got a few good Axon stories.

Famous yes, great it is not...….good to fairly good yes. But I got the Prime rib once and it was a gristle mess. But they're always very nice there and Louis has helped me out here and there over the years.

River Forest is a good stop too. Henry has always been extremely accommodating as well as his dockhand.

I would think the restaurant would be fine except for the Prime Rib which is so promoted and so missing in quality and the steaks are at best mediocre. The rest of the food is apparently quite decent.

Mediocre, missing in quality and decent.

Doesn't define the restaurants we choose to go to.
