Crowds look skimpy... loads of road traffic according to comments... was the show a bust?

No, one of my management customers made an offer on a 2015 65'-70' MY, but the seller got a higher offer and accepted that. Another management owner of a 2018 55' FB MY I manage is ordering a new 65'-70' MY with a September delivery date and working out the options right now.

I originally thought I would attend the Boat Show, but I really enjoyed the Yacht Show. THe Boat SHow seemed to have new and smaller boats, whereas the Yacht SHow seemed to have larger and used boats. Is there a trend toward smaller boats? Or just buyers with smaller budgets?

We were in the show on the brokerage side. Traffic was slow and our brokerage still had an amazing 35% under contract. Thats before the show ended. The goal for those to pay in the show is to sell not get foot traffic. ( we got 2 offers too but fingers crossed). Oh and by the way the stock market is up nicely which is probably a bigger factor than any show specifics.

We are looking at used 52-55 foot 3BR MY with a 5 year time horizon. But gut told me that there will be an excess of 70-90 footers for sale in the next 10 years based on foot traffic at the Miami Yacht show. It just seemed like very few ppl were on the larger boats. Maybe this show was an outlier and I'm by no means an expert but you certainly couldn't blame it on the weather. I saw a 60' Absolute and a 1997 76' Mochi Craft with a 22 foot beam that were still stylish despite the years. Thoughts on me giving consideration to these older and larger boats in the next 5 years? Think larger and older? Or smaller and younger by sticking to my original 52-55' range? Pros? Cons? Any demographics available out there to suggest which sizes and years will be more plentiful over the next 10 years?

Hey Joe. We were 3 down from the Mochi and I agree it was in fab shape. New teak in last year, very beamy, cat engines, etc. I’m told it was one of the Denison’s that went under contract. Now that was a big 76’ w 21.5 beam. A lot more boat than 52-50. But systems would be comparable. Insurance and dockage and other would be more.

I’ve always been one to get most bang for the buck and ended up w 105’. I’m excited to downsize and not have some of the bigger boat hassles. Going bigger within budget is exciting but I will vouch that the costs shocking scale. Our yearly budget is 25% of purchase price.

Just read through this thread. Am I correct to think the FLIBS is a better show to attend? Need to get my feet on a few and look around even though we will buy used.

We will most likely be in S. Fl. next Jan-early March
