I am looking at a 2000 42 post but am worried about the ride. The only review I can find is on an older 46 that reports a less than stellar ride in a 3' chop and hard to handle in a following sea due to an over flattened deadrise aft. Are the later models the same hull and does the 42 have the same hull shape as the 46? I'm not overly concerned about power and speed but don't want to be fighting the steering or pounding in 3'seas. Thanks in advance for any help
I believe a 2000 42 model hull had changes from earlier 80's models. More deadrise and better ride. But anything you read about pounding is really a matter of speed for the conditions. 23 knots in 3' head sea, yes probably will pound. 19 knots, not much. You state not concerned about speed that much, so really don't think you will have an issue. Following sea, the flatter stern is not the best. But again, adjust the speed. I've been in following seas where 23knot cruise was great for me and 19 was tough steering.
I agree, unless you are in enormous seas, pounding is generally function of speed. I wish I could contribute to the op question on a 42, but I just don't knowhow they run. Beautiful boat, though.
Thanks for your feedback. The boat is in the islands and I wanted as much info as possible before I spend the $$ to check her out.
sometimes you can pay for a ride ? Just be honest with the broker/owner...."I don't know how this boat rides, show me"
