Is there usually a traffic jam for the bus shuttles going over the bridge to the show? Or is it faster to park at AA Arena and wait for the water taxi?

The Boat Finder tab on the website still does not work and the show is only 4 weeks away. Is this a normal occurrence to accommodate boats that sell before the show?

All the above. Wait for water taxi as well. Just take patience with you. As to the web site, it's a bit of a circus getting all the brokers to get them the information. I would imagine today there are many who haven't given them final information. I don't know what kind of deadline they request.

Thanks older. I was hoping the bus shuttles had their own lane to avoid the traffic but I guess not.

No, you're going to wait...…..don't try to get out of the show right when it closes either...…. I've had several owners have me drive them to the show and various locations in the show in their own center consoles so that they didn't have to deal with it.

It's at a new location this year is what I hear. No longer on Collins. We just signed a contract to put our boat in it.

There are 2 separate but concurrent boat shows. Tickets to the two shows are NOT interchangeable.

The Progressive Miami Internation Boat Show: This is the boat show that used have its primary location at the Miami Convention Center on Miami Beach. Due to construction of the CC, they moved the show to Virginia Key on the Rickenbacher Causeway (just before Key Biscayne). You can think of this as the show for tent displays, manufacturers, and new boats.

The Miami Yacht Show: they keep changing their name as well as location and owners. This show, primarily for used or brokerage yachts, is owned by Informa, which used to be Show Management and IYBA, the International Yacht Brokers Assoc. which used to be FYBA, Florida Yacht Brokers Assoc. The primary location used to be on Collins. If you have reservations on South Beach thinking you would walk to the show, you goofed. The primary location is now Sea Isle Marina which is in downtown Miami at the western end of the Venetian Causeway. There is also the megayacht show on what we used to call Watson Island but is now Island Gardens Deep Harbour.

If you think all of this is confusing, let's not talk about transportation.

From what I'm seeing, it looks like the bulk of the show (with the yachts that normally went to Collins) will be floating docks on the West side of ICW, South of the Venetian causeway bridge (and Sea Lion) and North of the 395 bridge and Bayside (where the old Miami Herald building used to be). I went by there the past 2 days and they're setting up a bunch of floating docks and it also shows that on the renderings I've seen online. Remember, Sea Lion was always already completely full in the past years with boats when they had the Collins/Indian Creek location (which I will never miss that Indian Creek bridge ordeal). This should make transportation easier as it's all pretty much one location for the bulk of it, similar to FLIBS

One location, at Miami Marine Stadium? It sounds like someone needs to be disciplined over this confusion..

NO, there are 2 different shows and always has been, they just all got lumped into being called the Miami Boat Show. The Miami Boat Show will be at Miami Marine Stadium. BUT, The Miami Yacht Show will be The majority of yachts will be in one continuous stretch of waterway on the WEST side of the intracoastal from Bayside Marina North to Sea Isle Marina, they are putting/installing floating docks between Bayside Marina and Sea Isle marina. I know most if not all new boat venders will be here such as Feretti, Azimut, Hatteras, Viking, etc. etc. Not sure what they have going on at Miami Marine Stadium. Both shows websites with extensive information.

Thanks for the responses. It appears that there are actually 3 shows since the Super Yacht show ticket prices are the 3rd price tier. I guess the term Miami Boat Show is used too loosely. Glad I asked!

Having moved boats and worked with brokers around these shows here's how it breaks down:
Miami Boat Show is at Virginia Key, it is only for new manufacturers and is NMMA run. They will not have used/brokerage boats. They previously were in the convention center and at Sea Isle Marina as well as Bayside. A few years ago they consolidated to one location under a huge tent and floating docks at Virginia Key.

Miami Yacht Show is on the west side (previously was along Collins Ave). It started many years ago as a side show mainly geared towards brokerage boats and the brokers who didn't represent new boats since they weren't invited to the Miami show. It's run by Show Management (now owned by Informa). It will also have new manufacturers and new boats depending on where they want to spend their boatshow budget. Some will elect to split their displays and personnel and others will choose one show or the other.

Basically very confusing since neither website or show directory really makes mention of the other show. Supposedly they are starting to work together more to make it less confusing.

Yes, I had to laugh at "Supposedly they are starting to work together more to make it less confusing." When pigs fly, as they did on that one Simpsons episode.

We once had dueling boat shows in Charlotte NC. The boat show and then the RV show decided that "Boats and RV's" sounds better. Then a lot of dealers just decided they'd have their own in water shows at their marinas.

The Miami show, if done singular, could be so much better and more successful than either is.

Guess they aren't in need of media coverage nor are the builders and brokers showing there.

What prevents a media member from just attending as a guest of a builder or broker?

The Miami show last year on Collins had many brokerage boats, but also full lineups from Viking, hatteras, San Lorenzo, Mangusta, Pershing, riva. So far from just a brokerage show.

The Yacht Show will have the same there this year as well. But much easier to access and easier to get from the Yacht Show to the Boat show, as you're not stuck with the traffic on Collins. I had several customers over the years have me drop them at Collins and wait for them with their own boat, then take them from Collins to the Omni location, it was faster and easier for them.

Carl -- For the 1st time in 10 years, I am not requesting a media pass. They basically eliminated the media room at FLIBS, so no place to plug in and type. Why the tightening up on passes -- what, they might have a few journalists attend the show for free and not do a specific write-up? A few freebie writers getting free coffee and snacks?

I am taking this as a message that "we do our own publicity and spin things our way, so we don't need you."

Would be nice to see a media boycott. Count me in. But then, maybe that's what they want.

Wow - I can feel the excitement. The last post on MBS was 10 days ago and it starts in 2 days. Maybe proves Carl is right that the real boat show is on YF! Nonetheless, I'm sure there will be lots of traffic, people and cars.

I will be at the Beneteau Display at Virginia Key. Please stop by and introduce yourself if we haven't met yet. To my YF old-timers, I look forward to seeing you.
