I do not have dockside water..tank only..has anyone done away with the saltwater to their heads and made a fresh water hook up for the head? Trying to eliminate that nasty smell after salt water has been sitting in the hoses for a week...will the pressure pump overflow the head?

I done it for all 4 of my heads, used the same domestic water pump, but needed to add a solenoid valve in the water supply to the head wired to a bulkhead cole hersey push button sw. Has worked great for 12 yrs now. I do hold 600 gal of f.w. though. done away with the regular impeller intake and did a separate piping supply into the top of the bowl. Valved off the salt water pipe and could all be re connected if required.

I converted my Raritans with the conversion kits a while ago. It did big things for eliminating odors for me. I hold 240 gals and there is no stress on weekend supply due to the conversion

Raritan and a company called blue streak make an in-line cleaner system that works really well. I’ve used in on raw water flush toilets in the past with success. I’d love to use it again with my Galley Maid heads, but they don’t do a size for my intake lines.

I found these systems completely eliminate holding tank of odors from waste or raw water, especially when on longer vacations and going longer between pump outs.

I installed a raritan marine elegance toilet and tapped my fresh water system. Works great and eliminated the foul odors.

We have Raratain crown heads. 40+ year old design. Nothing chops up the paper and poo better.
We by-passed the raw pump and installed a Red Hat water valve 15 years ago on 2 of our 4 heads working directly from the ships potable water pressure line.

    Zero issues.

Hmmm, sounds like some good @#!* here! I have two Raritan Crown heads too, always used sea water. Never smelled to bad and I always add a shot of holding tank treatment to the head when I leave for the week.
But I like the fresh water thing.. Do they make a 12 volt valve? That looks to be 24volt. What's yours Capt Ralph?

That was an example to shop for. Not the final answer.
We run a 32V boat. I purchased the 24V valves from an e-bay site. Been working for more than 15 years now.

Ok, I wasn't sure. But why can't you just run a water line from your fresh water system direct to the intake on the impellor pump of the head and eliminate any valves at all? when you flush the head the water will flow via the impellor turning? This may be a dumb question.... I don't understand why you need a valve then?

The water pressure from the ship will over power the impeller and the bowl will constant fill.

Or, Just let the head draw from the potable tank? More plumbing that way vs a tap under the head sink? Well, half the project is to do away with the impeller, then enjoy a fresh and clean bowl.

Great ideas...all of them...winter projects to look into...I was thinking of placing a tee before the water pump and drawing from there...no extra holes in the tank...would probably still need a backflow so it doesn't draw the water from the heads hoses
