It would be great if Octopus became a role model for other true explorer yachts. Those yachts can only be used by its owners every now and then, and in between are not in use when their capabilities can help a lot in so many research/rescue projects, providing prestige to its owners.

Sad news - Paul Allen, owner of Octopus and a fleet of other yachts, has died due to cancer.

This is very sad. Best wishes and prayers to the family.
From an previous career in IT and knowing of his ocean ventures, I always had a liking for him and his efforts.

Cancer sucks, lost good friends to it.
Paul Allen was one of the good guys.

Hitting close to home. He was one of our first members. He lived like a rock star and he'll be rockin' heaven soon. Godspeed Paul.

Would be cool to hear more about his involvement on YF? Now that he has passed maybe the privacy could be opened up a bit?

Well nothing bad but the good things. I'm sure Paul would not mind.

Either way whether we know about his involvement on this site or not, it is very cool to know that Paul has been involved on this site! At this time I don’t blame for it to stay private. Would like to know what happens with Octopus and Tatoosh.

I sincerely hope all of his projects continue. Not just Tatoosh and Octopus, but Petrel, Stratolaunch, the conservation, research, Flying Heritage Collection, Experience Music Project, and everything else he had a hand in building.

Well there is about a $25 billion fortune to unwind. Half is destined for charity as per his pledge and the only surviving member is his sister. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I know she is in Hamburg. I wonder what will happen to Octopus and Tatoosh? Could we see one of them come to the market? I hope Octopus continues to travel around the world.
