Boaters University Feedback

I had never heard of them until today. Slick website, using the names of a bunch of magazine to look credible (although one could argue that most of these rags are just disguised advertising)... but looks VERY alight on content.

I'd like to see one actual sample lesson before spending hundreds of dollars...

Seems very basic, maybe good for people with 0 experience. I think buying and reading Chapmans Piloting would be a lot better, and much cheaper.

+1 on the Chapmans Book of Piloting & Seamanship. Should be a required read for all new deck and engineering candidates stepping foot aboard a yacht for the first time or for prospective mariners starting out in a yachting career. The version from the early 90's seems a bit more thorough than the new edition from what I've thumbed through the last few years. Just my 2 cents.

Never heard of them.
During trials I try to get the new owner at the helm in open water. Then watch them.
Lucky for us all, most of these do not purchase the ship.
If their any good, I advise they do some MOB drills after they purchase the boat.
The feed back from this recommendation has been very positive.
Others I recommend they study a fresh Chapman's, practice or find a training captain.
I work for the seller during trials. I can not engage what I really want to say some times.
Darwin candidate comes to mind. Maybe this course (any course) should be a brokers screening guide.
