Is it allowed to post a warning on here to others about a shipyard that truly will destroy your boat? I would hate to see anyone go through what we recently went through and I want to make people aware. The incompetence of this place is truly unbelievable but I dont want to make the warning if its not allowed to post the name. I dont use social media so thought this would be best place to get the word of caution out. Thanks for your repies.

Forums were founded on the premise of sharing information among those with a common interest; ultimately giving consumers the ability to hold companies accountable. When a forum has well-informed people it naturally becomes self-policing, so expect to be called out by those who have a different experience.

With that in mind, it would be hard to believe any shipyard would have the intent of destroying a boat. Not exactly a good business model! And with a screen name like ReelChaos, it sorta shouts out that you've got an axe to grind, therefore it would be best to have documentation or photos to substantiate your claim.

Wow. You missed the mark completely. First the name of my own personal sport fishing boat named after what my 2 kids give me has nothing to do with it genius and second without even asking one question you automatically got the whole shipyard situation figured out and without even being there. Your amazing. Obviously this wasnt the place to try to help other yacht captains not have a bad experience with a yard that should not be working on yachts. They are more commercial and therefore blasted the fairing off the boat before doing the bottom job. Thats just the tip of it. Im sure you will have a negative response because your just that type but to all others that might give a crap then stay away from North Florida Shipyards!!!

I have delivered a few boats in there. It is a commercial yard with a tough approach to the travel way. They are not hand holders like fancy yacht yards.
Like the boss said, an explanation of the work order, before, after & after pictures, what was damaged, time lines and NFS's response.
Without some real details, I don't give a crap.

Actually, seems to me that Carl was 100% on the mark based on your response. You come into the forum insulting the forum and owner with nothing but angry rhetoric. Based on your two posts in this thread, I'd have to take the side of the yard. If you want to convey objectivity and share information in a constructive way, a post like these isn't the way to do it. Now you're saying to stay away from all North Florida Shipyards and labeling Carl as "just that type" so toss me into that type too, whatever it is.

FYI, we've had plenty of people post factual, well supported, experiences with yards here but they've been just that, facts with chronology, not attacks with hyperbole.

A factual presentation of your experience might have been useful as you suggest, but when you come in ready to fight both the yard and the owner of this site, then that's not likely to occur. It would have been better had you just posted calmly and objectively your experience and then, when asked what yard, shared that. Terms like "destroying your boat" don't provide much information. In fact, if they destroyed your boat, I would imagine you're currently in litigation and in that case posting anything in a public forum wouldn't be advised by your attorney.

Forums can be great places to share information, but there's a responsibility in doing so and a responsibility by the forum owner to make sure it's done so fairly and factually. I've posted very negative information here about builders, but I've waited to post it until it was a matter of public record, supported by court documents, as well as other information I'd verified through multiple sources and could post without revealing the source.

It sounds like your experience was very recent. Perhaps calm down and gather your thoughts, then post the facts without it sounding like a vindictive attack. You showed at the moment an inability to receive any response without then attacking the person responding. You asked a question, Carl answered, you didn't like the answer and then attacked him. Not a way to enhance your credibility.

As Ralph posted, NFSY is a commercial yard. I would haul my coastal freighter there if I had one.

So anyway you say they jacked up your fairing? ...what's the warning? Or are we just going to go from zero to semi hysterical, and leave it at that?

I've delivered a few boats there. Picked them back up and returned home with them. Hatteras, PJ's and work boats.
    Owners always happy.
I feel there would no issue taking my personal boat there.

    What was your problem again?

Perhaps when I purchase a commercial ship or an old Navy vessel in that area, I will.

I'm very confused about what boats he's talking about as he talks in other threads about 43 meter and crew and captain and the owners, but he speaks of all of them in the third person. Now, this boat seems to be his based on him talking about his kids. Is it the same boat or different boats or different owners? Which of the boats is he the captain of? As he referred to the captain in the third person too.

Whilst you may have had a poor ship-yard experience, your inability to articulate the full nature of your problem calmly and dispassionately, as well as your gross punctuation and spelling, would indicate you have issues. You have succintly demonstrated the administrator was correct when he wrote: "You've got an axe to grind".

Lastly, from the sarcastic and condescending tone of your postings, you have a reel (spelling deliberate) bad attitude, and I suspect that "KARMA" gotcha.

Actually, reelchaos didn't "come into the forum insulting the forum and owner with nothing but angry rhetoric." His first post showed nothing but respect and consideration by asking if he is allowed to post about his experience with North Florida Shipyards.

I thought the first paragraph of YachtForums' response to reelchaos was good; the second paragraph was premature and maybe even inflammatory. Premature in that reelchaos hadn't describe what happened at the shipyard and inflammatory in the YachtForums accused reelchaos of having an "an axe to grind" based on his screen name. In case you don't understand, his sportfishing boat is named Reel Chaos and the choice of that name was inspired by his two kids and not that he has an axe to grind.

Obviously, that second paragraph of YachtForums' response made reelchaos angry, and he responded accordingly. I think his response was justified as he felt like he had been attacked without cause.

Now as far as you taking the side of the yard, you might want to reconsider that. North Florida Shipyards has a scuzzy factor in their business model. North Florida Shipyards and its president, Matt Self, paid "...$1 million to resolve allegations that they violated the False Claims Act by creating a front company, Ind-Mar Services Inc., in order to be awarded Coast Guard contracts that were designated for Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs), the Justice Department announced...." (The quoted material is from the Department of Justice website.)

That is definitely a scuzzy side exhibited at some point and not one I would defend in any way. I hope the $1 million and legal fees were painful to them. Knowledge you just shared would certainly make me less happy to use them. However, their reputation in terms of work on boats is good. Our only experience there was fine. Ralph and others have had good results from them.

I appreciate you pointing out what you did on the company. I've seen so many sham companies created to bid as minorities, or as veterans. Easy and deplorable way to do things. Set up someone as majority owner of a company, use that company to bid, but they farm all the work to your company. I do think business practices of that nature need to be exposed.

When was the violation you refer to?

As to Chaos, unfortunately Chaos all we ever got out of him. Had he come in describing in reasonable terms and factually an experience he'd had, it would have all been far better. Everything he's posted has been fuzzy and unclear in both this thread and others as to his role and involvement. I think Seasmaster addressed it effectively and reasonably.

The Small Business Administration suspended North Florida Shipyards from all government contracting in December 2013.

Olderboater asked me for the info, and I provided it. You should probably direct your question to him; I'm not his spokesperson.:p

We don't know the OP's issue or what might be of interest to them. However, in fairness, this is a reflection on the yard and it's owner and integrity and business ethics are important. Leeky had posted earlier about the episode. Leeky's last post was answering my question of what the date was.

I did not mean to dump on you at all. But I'm sure 4 year old legal issue was unknown to the OP and not a part of his gripe. And a non issue to me.
