What kind of v12 MTU? 12v183??? 12v2000? I wouldn't trust anyone from Freeport and would fly a mechanic in from Lauderdale. It does not sound good.....sounds like a stuck injector.....could be far worse.

Thanks capt J for the heads up , it’s 12v183 , he is up in Rhode Island and waiting and idling for the ship to load him and they kept delaying him so he went for run to kill some time and opened it up and ran it at full throttle for awhile and it went into limp mode with those symptons..the boat is a 2000 70’ Johson with 800 hours on the engines hasn’t been ran much in the last few years

    Fractured ring , ?

But one has to question the thought processes of WOT ing a 17 year engine which has ( if I understand the op ^^ ) been intermittently used ? Considering it’s about to be shipped to a place with dubious support .

My thoughts are it could be a low or dead cylinder also. I also would never WOT an engine that's been sitting a while. Run it slower for a while, then cruise, but not WOT until it has some hours on it.

I asked him the same thing...why would you run this WOT?

While I would fly (or boat) someone to Freeport from Fort Lauderdale, there are a couple of major yards in Freeport. Grand Bahama isn't into small boats like his but into ships. However, Bradford has a location there. Not MTU certified and not the choice I would make, but it's an option.
