I have a farrier trimaran near completion. I would like to ship it in a container with some supplies and finish working on it in Cuba with local labour.
Am I allowed to do this ? where can I do it ?
Marinas may be a bi too expensive for me.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thank you
    Gianfranco

You want to ship a half finished bot from Canada to Cuba?
    Because....?
Not sure it is a good idea, not only will the bureaucracy be immense, but also shipping costs and finding a good yard to complete it while you rent a hotel room or an apartment may be expensive.
The Cuban Government did confiscate stuff in the past and Raul may do it in the future. To say the Government down there is unstable would be an understatement.
I Would look at the Bahamas instead, plenty freighters and small container ships go in there as well and the politics are less screwed up.

Canada and others don't have many of the self inflicted issues the US has.
I can understand the question but doubt it would pay off or save anything.

Yeah, Cuba to Canadians is like the Canary Ilands to Europeans, a fun place to vacation.
Even so, I would not trust the Communist regime down there if I was to set up shop and finish my Yacht.
Same with Venezuela, cheap labor and good weather but too many internal problems.

I wouldn't call a sailboat that fits inside of a shipping container a yacht. That being said, I wouldn't ship it to Cuba and finish it.

The company I used work for finished 12 fishing vessels in Cuba, and lost money on each every one of them. It's not cheap to keep correcting poor workmanship.

I've also had work done in Venezuelan yards, again not great workmanship but cheap.

Anyone had work done in Puerto Rico?

Well in many countries a yacht is defined as a boat with accommodations so it s not usual to hear of a 35' yacht ...

In any case if the boat is small enough to fit in a container I can't see how much labor can be saved while dealing with the shipping, travel expenses etc.

Even discounting the risks of sending property to Cuba you ll have to deal with issues getting parts and material in.

Maybe Mexico would be a better idea, there are many yards with cheap labor on the pacific coast that cater to California owners
