    The "Sea Deuce" has sold so I'm looking for my next full time position on a power vessel between 60 and 100 feet. If you need a captain who is easy going yet uncompromising on quality, flexible while still conforming and has the ability to get things accomplished without breaking the bank- I'm your man. I'm currently in South Florida- Palm Beach. Temporary work also considered.
    PM with questions, interest or to ask for a full resume/references.

    Are we happy or sad that Sea Deuce sold?
    I know I'm sad that we won't be getting any exciting updates, ideas and wonderful pictures & reports.
    We need to get you a new ship before the shakes start in on me.

    Be well our friend and good luck on your next adventures.

    Still looking for my next full time position; I've been working with Jim Abernathy's Scuba Adventures (captaining and diving with giant grouper- up to 400 pounds and tiger sharks in the Bahamas) and spent the month of July in Montauk aboard a 60 Spencer sportfish in a temporary situation.

    I've been taking courses at MPT in Fort Lauderdale working toward my 500 ton USCG license; I currently have a 200 ton. I'll be done around the third week of Nov for all the required courses but the three week exam prep course is recommended to insure passing. I should have a year to pass the exams and could start work after I know that I'm excepted to have a exam seat- early Dec.

    I am fully STCW compliant for the Manila amendments which are scheduled to become mandatory in 2017 , and have completed HELM, BRG, RFPNW, AB, Radar Observer unlimited , Advanced Fire, Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue boats. I'm scheduled for Vessel Security in early January.
    I'm currently (started the day after classes finished! Nov 19th) in the Mexican Pacific islands of Socorro, San Benedicto and Roca Partida as first office of a 135 footer until the end of the year. I have applied for my USCG 500 GT Masters license and should sit for the exam sometime in 2017. Looking forward to a continued bright future!

    Best of luck to you, Bamboo. As important as your qualifications, your integrity and longstanding relationships speak so well for you. Ears open, but hopefully some serious yacht owner will pick up on your skills and talents first.

    Thank you Judy! I like to see things on the positive side and that's served me well in my career. The future will work itself out; of that I'm sure. :)

    Wow the USCG NMC is BUSY! I just got the call from them and it's official- I have one year to take and pass the 500 GRT exam. I'm also fully qualified for all STCW, my AB license is unlimited and they are sending me a duplicate license with all that info in the mail! It's a good day. :)

    Great news for you. This transition has been a challenge for everyone including the USCG.

    It all arrived today, my license with all the endorsements in it, and the letter which states I'm qualified to sit for the exam. That was fast! Now I need to get that full time job with an awesome owner who enjoys life and people!

    I'm on a bit of a slow down as I broke a bone in my right foot; I just yesterday could not say yes to a two week job for $450 per day plus tip. I'm waiting for the podiatrist approval. :(

    You point out something that concerns me about all of you independent captains and that is protection against injuries and disabilities.

    Yep;
    Was to wear a black boot (in place of a cast) after a fall in my own boat years ago. Follow up ex-ray the doc told me I was not wearing the boot (she was rite), cracked bone got worse.
    After that I found a way to keep that dam big boot on. Hobbled around like a peg leg and covered it with a garbage bag when I went working in some E R or Bilges.

    Then;
    After a right Shoulder surgery (rotator cuff and re-attache tendons), I learned my lesson about keeping wrapped up in these big ugly black contraptions.
    Wore it in view of my wife and therapist. Hand in pocket most other times. I started to work well but slow with my left hand (I'm right handed).

    Last week I hammered my left trigger finger, Now I have two thumbs on the same left hand.

    Even a smashed finger slows things down greatly, you can see how slow I'm typing.

    With hang-overs, I have to work also. I really hate it when that happens.

    I wonder if Bamboo broke his foot working or playing basket ball.

    On a plus side, I fell in once 50 years ago. Not since.
    My wife & I practice the One Hand on something solid when boarding/de-boarding any size boat.

    Techs, captains, crew, washers and owners & guest; at least once a week, someone gets dunked in the Ortega River.
    bruises, bad bumps and bad scrapes, all have returned to vertical.
