Galley Maid head pump uses a 2 3/8" in hose.
I can not find Sanitation Hose in this size. No wonder these heads always stink.
What favorite exhaust hose has the experienced forum kids here used?

Can anybody confirm the black water discharge hose size (3/4, 1")?

I think it was 3/4" but I honestly cannot remember. Shields does make hose in the 2 3/8" size that is approved for sanitation The series 146 hose for example. Check out the sea star sight.

    Yep

I called. Nice lady helped me over the phone.
They use exhaust hose and the later model pumps used 3/4" hose to discharge.

I'm trying to fill the customers wishes. He wants the best hose and never wants the odor in his boat again.
Not a lot of 3/4" sanitation hose out there. I'm considering heavy PVC to the black water tank and easy to reach hose connects where needed.

The in/out rinse water is not to big of an issue.

3/4" there is plenty of heavy duty sanitation hose.....it's the 2 3/8" that's the issue. Shields sanitation hose lewis figure 1984 comes in 3/4", The headhunter stuff comes in 3/4". Trident VAC HHD comes in 3/4" (available through BOW) labelled extra heavy duty

I crawled into the forward bilge today. What a mess down there and mostly factory.
Cut some old hose, stripped some barbs, looked around and wondered where my phone was to call 911.
Methane, bilge fumes and leg cramps overcame me and I had a time crawling out. Some blood spilled (dam blood thinners).
    But, it was worth it.
2 Galley Made head pumps were in there, forward sump and thru hull cocks.
The Galley made pump rinse water outlet uses 3/4" hose. All other are 1" hose (rinse water in, black water out).
I guess that nice lady on the phone may not have understood my questions.

    So, on this '89 Hatteras;
1" black water hose to the tank after the Galley Made pump.
1" raw water to the rinse pump.
3/4" from the rinse pump to the head (bowl).
2 3/8" from head (bowl) to Galley Made pump.
1.5" for black water deck pump out.
1.25" black water tank vents (two vents P&S).
1.5" to Maceration pump from black water tank.
1" from maceration pump to thru hull cock.

On top of replacing the original and failing hoses, there is to be re-routing plans.
Seems Hatteras ran the black hose low in the bilge to the thru hull, pending 2 valves positions, it went overboard or back up to the black water tank.

    Ah, But there's the rub (old quote);
That hose dips low and never drains if the thru hull is closed (as to be).
Black water sitting in the hose after 28+ years, no wander the boat stinks.
New design coming and the new hoses are not dipping down to a thru hull.

Thanks to all for their thoughts on my 2 threads.

I also have a plan to submit to the owner to update this old stuff to a newer head & sanitation system.

Up front cost may not be that much more than cleaning up all these hoses with the labor involved vs the newer head designs.
Still pondering this and scratching body parts.

    ,Ralph

Honestly Ralph, I've been pushing new heads these days versus rebuilding the old Galley maid pumps that never seem to fill/drain at the same speed. The new Raritans are nice and simple to hook up, run fresh water supply to them, hook up the drain hose, a couple of wire connections and off you go. Headhunters work too. The only rub is you need pretty decent water pressure for both of those to work right. You will never get rid of the smell with saltwater flushing toilets. Can also put a plug in the seacock for the supply to each Galley Maid. The other issue is what voltage is this boat? The newer toilets only come in 12 or 24 volts, but use very little amperage compared to the Galley Maids and can use a dc to dc converter.

Luck fer us, it's a 24Vdc Hatteras. Anything is possible.

I'm still using 32Vdc Raritans on our ole Bert and swear they work better than the Galley Maid gizmos.
Heck of a lot simpler and cheaper to maintain also.

Just back to my desk with a fresh refreshment in hand. Fixing to type up a letter to the Hat owner.

Going to get cold up here tonight. Will be a slow start jumping into the bilges of this ole G B tomorrow morning.
Lite up those old Fords and should be comfy in a few minutes. AND Yes, servicing duck-bills and base gaskets on Vac-U-Flush system.

I remind my self of the old sees-pool diver jokes. Crappy job but it pays this week.

Replacing my Galley Maid toilets with Raritan Atlantis worked out for me. No problems and no smell.

Just received the go-ahead to replace the master head with a Raritan Atlantis head. Using fresh water rinse from the vanity supply.
    One of four down.

Make sure you order the TALL one and elongated bowl. The normal one is very short and like sitting on the floor and the regular bowl very small.
