All Combustibles present environmental problems, especially in some geographic conditions that allow air-borne matter to collect and fall into our lungs, water sources, crops, etc. . Visit Boise, Idaho in winter and be prepared to observe the disgusting brown-gray haze as far as eye can see created from all the wood fireplace burns (and garbage included), really depressing in a normally beautiful area.

On a more upbeat note, large diesels used for back-up power supplies have cleaned up their exhaust emissions to a pretty decent level, and I have seen some reports that show the exhaust product is cleaner than the incoming air from certain zones in China and India, who would have known that we can now use them to "purify" the air in these "look the other way" areas. Oh, the irony..........

It is hard to really understand the connection amongst the VW-Audi-Porsche engineers, and it appears that the Audi guys had more influence on the VW diesels, but it really does not speak well for the entire group.

Lamborgini, Porsche and David Brown (the DB in Aston Martin's names) all made tractors and industrial engines. Not one of them made it into their sports cars.

Diesel is a fine fuel for heavy use, for a light, flighty sports car I think not.

The acceleration in my MB 3.2l bluetec will throw you back in the seat. It's quite remarkable.

AUDI has been proving otherwise at LeMans for over a decade.

I am on my second Lincoln MKT and I love it. Have had BMW X5, Toyota 4-Runner (2), Buick Rainier, Nissan Pathfinder, and Ford Explorer. This is by far my favorite. And it has a 3500 pound towing capacity...

I have not been in any new Hummers, ( are they still making the big one ? ) but the older ones did not a whole lot of interior room.
They looked large on the outside but confining on the inside.

Darn. I kind of need the room to haul some stuff. And yeah, I've only ever seen them from the outside.

Maybe Suburban/Yukon XL/Escalade ESV... or an older Excusion.

Or Ford Expedition EL is the same size as the suburban and has a better cargo situation when you fold the seats down they fold into the floor. The normal Expedition, the cargo area is about 8" longer with the 3rd row seat folded down (flat in the floor) than the Yukon/Tahoe with it's 3rd row seat removed.....

Expedition has the most cargo space of any SUV currently on the market in the US.

I forgot about that one. Those rear seats be a plus. I can fold ours (Suburban) in a couple different configurations, lay stuff on top of the seats when they're folded, etc... but they're heavy and awkward enough so I don't care to actually remove them very often.

The third row on the Expedition fold completely into a flat floor that's the same height as the cargo area. The 2nd row, folds almost as flat but sticks up 9-12". They've done this since the 2003 model so you don't have to remove them to carry a ton of cargo.

Yep, had a Cayenne hybrid. Went to a Cayenne GTS with biturbo v6.
Much better motor, braking and on loss of torque.

I met a kid at a truck stop years ago. He had that BIG Expedition with the V-10 engine. He was pulling a big (BIG) asp camper (house) trailer behind him. Either bragging or BS, he stated the truck pulled very well.
Since GM does not offer the Burb in 3/4 ton or with the barn doors any more, the big ford I did start liking.
I lost track of the big Ford and still have Burb 6.

I always thought one day GM or Ford would put a big diesel in one of these beast but the SFBs never did.

2018 Expedition will come with a diesel as an option and the EL is the same size as the Suburban with better interior seating storage.

I'd have thought that would have been an Excursion; I know diesel was available, and I'm pretty sure the big gas option was the V-10 in that. I liked the Excursion rear door arrangement, too.

And yep, diesel in a Suburban (or Expedition) would be nifty. I think two versions; one larger for hauling trailers and so forth, one smaller for just inboard load. I postulate the latter, maybe 3.5L?, could probably get up to around 25-27 MPG, depending. 2018 would be just about time for me to think about a new one, Suburban, Expedition, whatever... I don't care much about brand name...
