Reviving an old thread here but would it be possible to run an AC for at least the master off of a battery bank? I would think if you add 2-4 of those mastervolt 24v 5000w in sequence, it would be possible. The problem is that there are some moorings and anchorages that do not let the generator to run at night.

It's possible, 5000 watts is 20.8 amps at 240 volts. But the problem is depending on what kind of a/c pump you have. The oberdorfer style have high startup amps, combined with the high startup amps of the a/c compressor. If you have a March pump, their startup and running amps are low. Probably would need 2 inverters and a heck of a large battery bank. It's doable yes, logical no.

I really don't understand the NO generator rule in these anchorages. The ones on the yacht I run, are all so quiet you can barely hear them while standing on the aft deck and you can barely smell them..........A bit different than a portable generator on the deck of a sailboat.

My main thing is why can't these anchorages have a zone designated for generator use so that everyone can be happy?

That is my beef too. It really is ridiculous. They seem to support homeless sailboaters.....and don't care about anyone else. Meanwhile the homeless sailboaters aren't running a generator but dumping tons of sewage overboard.

I kinda resent that generalization. We were "homeless" sailors for six years and never dumped sewage overboard, we used a Lectrasan. We would spend the night running on batteries and run the genset in the morning to recharge the batteries. We never ran it all night. The only noise outside the boat was the exhaust which was no louder than the one on our current power boat.

bobhorn; I kinda resent that generalization.

You may be the exception. I hope there are more like you but doubt it.

I'm in a different part of the world than the 2 gents above, but we may share similar attitudes regarding the homeless on a snailbote.
I will tell you the locals in our area and transients snailboters less than 50 feet are the largest group of hypocrites in the world.
On select nights their untreated sewage is noted coming from the anchorage and the docks west of us.

Our company does not work on snailbotes. With this attitude, our A/Rs are never past 14 days.

So please don't take the generalization personal; but snailboters are running out of friends & fans in some hoods.
