Well you needed a new mayor... There is no excuse for this. Or better neighbors... In many areas, people clear the street themselves.

    I've often thought this myself.

It's really not the South Florida members that need safety as much as those further north. The difference in projected winds and surge for even Jupiter vs Fort Lauderdale is substantial. Current wind forecast FLL 70 mph, Jupiter 110 mph, Melbourne 118 mph.

IMG_0650.JPG Yup, we lucked out, so far anyway.
Had 3 boats to prepare, all good now, swam lines across the canal to get the boats 2-3' away.

It was all of Broward county. Tons of power lines down, can't drive over them.

I'd never really watched the weather channel before, but we've had it on. They rerun the same live stories over and over. They've been warning that people will be without power for weeks. Then they've had a headline which they periodically put in a bar mid screen and they haven't corrected even in hours. It reads than NC is expecting 12' of rain. Yes, feet, not inches.

I'm not sure how to achieve honest warnings without histrionics and hyperbole, instill a proper respect for the storm without an inappropriate level of fear. I'm not sure how you give your best projection while at the same time warning that if it moves slightly west it could turn into another far worst forecast. I know right now our winds are half what they were forecast for this hour. I hope that continues. More than us in FLL, I hope the forecast improves north or us.

I put an advert on daywork123 yesterday am saying I'd help move boats and had a 50meter Heesen owner text looking for me to watch it for a week. I texted back and forth over the day then this am he just ghosted me with no contact. I think he was a scammer looking to get my info as he asked for my address to send a check to. He has a 786 mobile number and called himself "Edward". Since I've been unemployed I've found there are a few unscrupulous people "out there" (as well as closer to home so to speak) acting like they are something they are not.
I spent the morning yesterday waiting at Home Depot for the propane delivery and helped old folks load plywood and other supplies until a manager told me to stop helping people. I looked at him quizzically: "these are old folks and there's a hurricane coming- you do know that, right?" ... he had to go inside when a commotion ensued because a man was trying to steal a large load of goods.

Winds have already shifted west in miami as th center is north of us. The hype has been ridiculous... Everything is shut down, nobody s working... I mean it's not great weather but it's no worst than what we get a few times a year.

Here in the grove, sustained winds have barely exceeded 20kts and now from th west so it's even less.

Got to say the NHC really nailed this one. I ve been plotting and comparing various forecasts over the past 2 days with actual track and they ve been within a few mile. Great job.

Looks like the Exumas escaped with minor damage which is incredible considering the center tracked about 30nm away. Only a handful of boats were washed ashore in Gtown, most made it just fine. I saw an update from Staniel earlier that there seem to be no structural damage, even to the dock...

No damage at my place either.
40 knots in gusts and howling pretty good in sailboat rigging.
Expecting to loose power anytime, some rotten tree may fall over and knock out a local line.
Half the boats in the canal did no preparations at all.
They lucked out and so did I, with hurricane winds they would break loose
and hit other boats, mine included.
Saw it quite a bit during Wilma.
Better lucky than good I guess..

You can't tell here that there was a storm. A few boats on the ICW, I'm sure mostly just checking things out. A few people back on the beach.

Surprisingly, no damage in Jupiter or the southern Treasure coast area. Just a few limbs down. Got lucky!
