    I am currently working on specifying a new 55' Sportfisher, the two engine options I am considering are the C18 and the D116. I have previously had CAT's, without any issues, however Scania's offering is attractive. They are cheaper, servicing is cheaper, fuel economy is 12% better at cruise. I am in Australia and Scania have increased their presence here over the last few years in recreational marine engines, but still not a lot of history.
    I would appreciate any comments or thoughts.

    I've heard Scania's are good motors but there is very little support for them in the US. The CAT C18 is a proven durable long running engine with worldwide support. Maintanence parts for a CAT are cheap (oil/fuel filters etc.). I'd go for the CAT.

    Hello Capt J thanks for the response, there is a lot of support for Scania here as they are very common in trucks in Australia, and marine support is growing and OK apparently. I am leaning to the CAT's

    I would consider resale as well. CATs are a preferred brand and while Scania's may be just as good, they might not be as well recieved by potential buyers.

    They are both good engine manufacturers in my opinion even though I have a CAT in my Avatar.

    Does the Scania have the same duty cycle limits as the CAT which at 1150HP is an E rated engine which means that you can run it at that output 1/2 hr out of 6 hrs.
