Yeah, but those are somewhat unique. I've not seen other propnuts which have a larger face than the nut itself. They've been installed that way since I've been aboard and they don't come off easily, trust me. I learned long ago that if something works don't mess with it.
I bought a propsmith many years back as many shops at the time didn't have a 4 inch version on hand- so the prop is always seated/installed correctly.

Please tell us more about the Speed Prop goop. It was applied in the spring? Then shaft and prop work last week. You did not reapply any to the struts? Understanding that the shafts were serviced (props?), how did the spring time application on the shafts and props hold up?
I suspect little left but asking you and your ships results.

    Thx, rc

Propspeed from the shafts, props and main strut were applied this spring at the Viking Service Center North yard in Riviera Beach, FL. They do good work at a reasonable price and don't charge a daily fee. (full disclosure: I worked for them for just short of three years as a systems mechanic/yard captain prior to my current position) The props came off and the shafts came out when the cutless bearings were replaced; thus the shafts needed to be cleaned and prepped for a new coating. The props came off and propspeed tends to last longest on the struts, then a bit shorter on the shafts and wears off more quickly on the props. Normal use lasts between 18-36 months depending on a variety of factors. My main struts propspeed showed little to no wear after around 3000 miles (the intermediates are tiny and kinda tucked up and bottom paint works find on them. Nothing really lasts very long on the rudders so they get a bottom paint but not the same ablative which the bottom gets; same with the trim tabs. They aren't a different color for the sexy look.) Shafts looked fine as well and so did the props, but both were renewed; shafts due to cleaning them to remove them- which is SOP, and the props due to slight wear and it's not overly expensive if you are already doing shafts. Application by experienced yard crew is highly recommended. I don't know of many sportfish boats that doesn't use propspeed.

We use Propspeed on all boats. It does an excellent job.

I've had different results. I don't find that it prevents barnacles, just that it makes it easier for the diver to remove them. I've found trilux does a great job on slower boats 23knot< cruise.

I wouldn't say prevents, just reduces and makes removal easier.

I guess it's the silt in all of our shallow / dirty water that kills the stuff during operation.
I have not witnessed it staying on the hardware well during short seasons for boats that operate regularly in this hood.
Some dock queens like it. Half dozen times a year their off the dock to go to a faguars game, idle speed loaded with loaded people.
    Thx for the response,
    rc

Electrolysis will burn any paint/coating off of running gear in a hurry. Part of it is probably the silty water by you and strong currents.

Back to regular programming ... I'm back in the slip at Sailfish Marina and happy about that. :) Now it's time to give her a good wash and settle in so I can start work on the next project and make her even more shiny/reliable/new. The marina is nearly full this season so it's going to be a busy place; glad to see that.

We're hearing that every marina in the path of the east coast snowbirds is full or nearly full right now. Quite a migratory season it seems. Many finding transient docks fully reserved.

Four new turbo blankets from DeAngelo Marine Exhaust and two new ME air filters, the other two are the AirSep units and are newish. I emailed these pics to myself as "small" and then downloaded them- I hope they are not larger than the allowed size.

So you run Airseps on one engine and OEM style filters on the other?

No; I've got a AirSep unit on each engine however one air filter per engine is a cone style and the other is a cylindrical K&N. Both filters are oil infused "gauze" type that are found on most marine engines.

Well if it's worked for a long time I guess you keep going with it. But I would not want different filter styles. One turbo and air inlet feeds the front half of the engine and the other turbo/inlet the aft half. I would want to try to do whatever I could to make sure both are fed equally. But I guess as long as each filter type flows more than what the engine needs/wants in theory all is well.

Curious though why you have different types? Isn't it more convenient to have one type and then make carrying spares easier?

I'm to blame for that one. Over 10 years ago Bamboo was looking for a set of airseps for his engines and I had ended up with a set of almost brand new airseps from 16v2000's from a customer. I didn't realize that the 16v2000's utilize 1 airsep per engine and the 16v92's utilize 2. The airseps had the same opening size as the 16v92's. I drove them an hour to Palm Beach then we realized it. Bamboo spoke to his mechanics and they said they would work fine, so he bought them from me and have been installed for over 10 years now.

There's a good possibility I may steal that as a laptop background.

I visited my Donzi in winter storage this past weekend and I too have the larger flanged prop nuts and have them arranged same as yours. It wouldn't make sense any other way with the flanged nuts. So far, no issues with them coming loose (knock wood)!
