As this is a worldwide forum and I do know there are some here from France, just wanted to say our thoughts are very much with you.

The photos are horrific. Thoughts and prayers are with all that are touched by this tragedy.

So much of what constructs Freedom and the Liberty in our culture is owed to the souls that make up our history, and amongst the Titans of these fundamental principals, live the souls of many offspring of France.

Evil will not diminish or shadow these Souls. Today we should think of them and their legacy.

    Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.

    Welland shows solidarity with France

The Welland Canal bridge 13 was lit up with the colours of the French flag on Saturday night to show solidarity with France after deadly attacks occur

Lets not forget the french have elected and re elected Governments who have repeatedly opened their borders to MILLIONS of Muslims migrants who are now so powerful that towns and cities are caving in to demands like removing pork from school cafeterias...

Glad I left back in the early 80s.

Although sometimes I feel things are quickly become far worst here under .. Never mind

They can light up a bunch of monuments, or have them go dark, or people can light candles and sing songs, but what really needs to happen is for this insanity to be confronted and destroyed. And it's going to take more than drone strikes. It's going to be very difficult, very expensive, and very unpleasant.

Destroy them or get used to taking your beatings.

Unfortunately the Politically Correct enviroment that seems to exist just about everywhere has clearly demonstrated so far that this world lacks the ability to do what needs to be done.

One of the victims is a young woman from the USA who was a college student in Paris on semester abroad. My daughter spent a semester there just two years ago. I can't imagine what this young woman's family is going through.

I'm trying to understand how that might be called a biased content? If that so then most all of '60 Minutes' programs content is bias?

It is a matter of fact that the Muslims will take over Europe by out-populating them. Then things could turn real scary.

I started this thread with the hopes we could just express our sympathy and caring for the people, not get into the political side of things. While I fully understand many have strong views, as do I, that's not the purpose of this thread. It's simply to say "we're thinking of the people of Paris and surrounding areas."

Yes, Brian, you are biased. So is 60 minutes. So is Carl. So am I. But can we simply leave that for other times and other places. We're not going to solve the world's problems here on a yacht forum nor is this the place.

You are correct OB and My comment may not have been correct above, but I felt better typing them.

I was living in baker county on 9/11 (the 9/11). 100s of rednecks well armed stood together but did not know what to do. Despite prayer and unity, we all wanted to blow something up and shoot some bad guys.
Yep, we were pissed and still are.

In the years since, I have found it very easy to armchair quarterback an air strike. I still want to blow something up and shoot some bad guys.

Yes, There is unity and prayer for the French and all other victims of such horrid acts.

One day, hopefully soon, there will be enough pissed off people to end this madness and stop f#%^^ng around it.

Unfortunately violence and war seem to be part of human nature and have throughout history. We know it's wrong. Every religion in it's true nature says it's wrong. Seems simple, but apparently isn't. I'm saddened tremendously by the reality of man's inhumanity toward man.

This is sad my friend. This also is on mine and many minds.
I do not have the answer.

In the mean time; I'm still pissed, want to blow something up and shoot some bad guys.

Yes the attacks were a barbarian act and my thoughts are also very much with our french friends. I also really welcomed the huge amount of condolence and solidarity around the world.

If just the world (people) would show their condolence also for countries like Russia, Turkey and Lebanon which all were victims of IS attacks to similar extent recently. Unfortunately compared to Paris very very few people did so. (40 people were killed in Beirut by IS only one dayprior to the attacks in Paris.)
This is just because of the mainstream media which seem to go crazy right now producing one story after another and special broadcasts all over the TV etc. The media are giving us only a very limited perspective and thereby show a vey unfair picture of the world.

A world where it seems like more importance is attached to the death of someone from a western country than anywhere else. This is the sad truth. (At least concerning terrorism). Do not just pray for Paris, pray for the world people.

Milow, you are very correct. We do it in all areas. We show condolences over El Faro, yet worldwide there are sinkings and lives lost regularly. The lives lost daily through war, violence and terrorism is a huge, shameful number. How can one even look at the horrors this group has committed in their own homeland and not be pained terribly.

We do need to think of the world. Fact is the closer it is to hitting home the more it gets our attention but that by no means makes those lives more important than others. Most in the US didn't get concerned about terrorists until 9/11, yet they were worldwide.

My primary news source is online so I do see what is taking place worldwide. I pull up CNN/World/Middle East or Africa and sometimes feel ashamed to be part of my species. We're certainly not as advanced as we like to think. Just one thing that absolutely rips me apart is to know the number of females being raped every day in that area. We get upset if we read of one rape locally. Yet there are thousands taking place at all ages. Yes, Subway Jared merits our condemnation but what he's done is nothing compared to what it happening daily elsewhere that we don't seem to get as horrified by. I have a hard time even talking about these things. There's so much going on and I have so very little power to help the people so in need.

It just really gets me upset when I see the media in countries which prise themself for their democracy, differentiating between different countries just like we are living in a global class society.

The day after the attacks in Paris a pianist was playing in front of the Bataclan Jon Leonnon's "Imagine". As Lennon said "The world could life as one", 50 years later and it seems more unlikely than ever before.

If we stop noticing then that's very bad. Now, in my case, I just cannot deal with it on a constant or even daily basis. When I see or read some of these things it really takes a lot out of me. So, I think some of it is us protecting ourselves. We all have to find a balance between knowledge and concern vs obsession. I happen to be married to someone expert at keeping me in balance.
