    Random thoughts on opening day...

Contrary to show management's claim that this is the biggest Fort Lauderdale Boat Show ever, it appears to be the smallest in a decade. By boat count it is the largest, but that's because so many of the big boats are MIA, leaving more space for lesser size boats.

First day traffic appeared normal but the beer barges weren't busy. Not a big deal until you factor in that one of the 4 barges was missing, leaving only 3 watering holes in the water. Or that Bahia Mar dropped their 4- night minimum stay and is allowing one or two night bookings.

What's a good time/place to meet tomorrow after lunch?

Carl, you've got my number... anyone else, PM me and we can be in touch. I ought to be easy to spot... wearing a YF polo, but not Carl.

Kevin, good place to meet up is Bahia Mar bar. It's air conditioned! Can't believe it's November. Feels like August. :-(

I'm in meetings all day. Free after 4:00.

Hi Judy, thanks for asking, today is my first day on the computer since my rotator cuff surgery last Friday which went extremely well!

Sorry I am not there with you all checking out the latest and greatest yachts and accouterments and then posting pictures of it all here on YF!

Hopefully those of you who are there soaking it all in can post some shots for the rest of us to enjoy this year.

    See ya'all next year!!!

    Cheers, Disco

The next best opportunity for taking shots of all the in water yachts docked for the show is the morning/afternoon after the show ends from Idlewyld Dr.

There is an unloading schedule you can snag from any in water participant if you want to catch any yacht in particular; it is just like shooting ducks in a barrel!!

Tom shot the post-FLIBS parade on Tuesday morning. I know he's got a week of catching up to do because he puts the rest of his life on hold to cover the show, but hopefully he'll find time to upload some shots soon.

1.5 years after the surgery, I'm stronger than all the 5 years having problems moving my right arm.
Was lifting batteries yesterday like I was a kid.
Follow your therapy to the letter.

WOW! A legend? I wouldn't go that far, but thanks very much. Yes, show was very busy for me, still processing photos for customers, getting the billing done and answering e-mails. Good to be back on YF.
But first, I don't know which show you guys were at, but the first day on Thursday was packed. Have not seen a Thursday with so much traffic. Yachts, brokers, car guys, vendors all said Thursday and Friday were banner days. At first I thought the show was smaller, as in fewer yachts. and it might have been but not as much as I originally thought, so I apologize. Big yachts like Northern Star, Rock.It and Skyfall were on the outside dock that I did not see at first. And they moved not just catamarans but yachts like Elizabeth and Positive Carry at Pier 66. across at the Hilton was Harmony and Sicara (sp) while Helios and others were at The Sails.
Here's a teaser image while I get the rest of the images sorted out. And I have a time lapse of Northern Star departing on Tuesday morning. Check my Facebook page for the video (tomseriophotography).
    More soon...

Here's another teaser. I shot the planes at the Stuart Air Show a few weeks ago. Here's an F18 breaking sound. Once I get these done they will be up on Jetforums. Maybe time to hire an assistant? F18 DSC_6205.jpg

So perhaps the VIP approach worked and that accounts for the early traffic and a corresponding reduction in Saturday and Sunday?

Not sure if the VIP was a big seller, still the first year. Sunday was quiet in the morning, a little more traffic in the afternoon. Monday was flat all around. I do think that the management folks were lax in getting the show setup in time, as Carl said. On Thursday morning the builder's tent (I think) still didn't have carpeting down, just the plywood. Seems there were less workers all around, too.

Had I been paying what exhibitors do, that would have infuriated me. They fine you if you aren't there or if you close up early on the final day.
