while correcting a hard starting problem on a 1980 6.5 onan gen set, i noticed some red rust ion the cooling blade along with a different ping sound when running. further investigation revealed the slip rings are loose, appears all 4 of them. Not sure if this is causeing the strange noise, but suspect these rings should be tight. If so how do i tighten them?
First, the gen set only has 1000hrs on it. It runs just fine and carries a load no problem. As per my original question, can the slip rings be tightened?
