Greetings All, Just purchased a 1989 3807 with the Kohler 7.5 Generator, I found the main control switch on the main power panel, it has an off side and a start side. I cant for the life of me find the Hours or the start button anywhere. I found the Generator Manual that talks about a "Remote Control Panel" I dont see it anywhere. This is not my first Boat but it is my first Carver. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks...
I assume that's the old flat top, 4 cly, gas, 7.5R. Usually not a remote panel or hour meter, just start & stop Be sure to follow up with the Kohler web site; there was a riser recall. Yep, even for those old dawgs.
Thanks for the info. Thats odd to me, my Chris Craft (1985) had the meter and the start button and fuse remotely located. So Like said I saw the switch on the main power panel but its a toggle that goes one way or the other, shouldnt I have a button to stop pushing once its starts? I mean on the hard toggle does it stay in the start position after its running? Thanks again. BTW - It is the Flat Four Model.
The toggle is usually a momentary switch, down to start, then mid point auto return after start and flip up to stop.
On a 2000 53 voyager, you hold the switch up to start then release it. Down to shut the generator off.
Your start/stop switch should be a mirror of the switch on the rear of the gen-set if it is a 7.5R flat top (not the remote/local switch). No switches should stay in any position but center, except the remote/local switch.
If your 7.5R is installed like mine (cylinders in line with keel), the hour meter should be on the stbd side of the geeny at the rear. You will find the service start/stop switch there as well.
on mine.. I just turn the switch to start and leave it there once it starts the starter disengages... on the gen itself there are switches for remote start or start at the engine.. it is a toggle.. first time po started it I wanted to turn the switch off.. he laughed.. said it stays on until you want it off and then switch it back.......
