I have looked all over and in all my manuals here and cannot find the oil "pressure" parameters for my ZF-BW-190 Tranny's.. I am running VDO guages that read up to 350 psi. The last Captain and owner went to Sigma-Netic's 774.22-S01R-285D 2 wire sensor that reads upper and lower pressures. etc. Apparently works.. On the stdb engine they recently replace the sensor w/ a newfangled 4 wire sensor with dial up parameters.. (not connected yet.). Well the original sensors... (alarms) are 2 wire.... I prefer to go back with the original 2 wire pressure senders... But do not know which ones they are supposed to be.... Should I just say screw it and go with the 4 wire dumbed down to 2 wire or can someone give me a VDO part number or the correct pressure parameters for these transmissions??

Generally oil pressure on the engines runs from 5psi at dead idle after running at cruise a while to a high of 50psi (but 30-40 psi is more the norm.) The ZF gears if they're something like the BW 160's or 165's I cannot remember the exact model designation.......usually run around 70 psi neutral and 200-250psi in gear.

Thanks Capt. J... But I need exact parameters or specific replacement part.. If the sender is not exact for this transmission, the alarm may go off at the wrong pressure or not at all possibly allowing damage to the transmission

if the sender is for the VDO gauge then you have to match the sender to the gauge. Call or email ZF and they should know what sender.

Talked to ZF... They expressed no knowledge of what "VDO" sensor was the right one.. But did email me a Monitoring Data sheet with some parameters on it... Still Greek to me...

Call Lauderdale Speedometer (or email) them in Fort Lauderdale, they'll know off the top of their head what sender you need. All they do is specialize in gauges for yachts (mostly).

Been there done that.. Paul was trying to help me.. But they have different gages w/ different start stop alarm settings. He recommended one set for my VDO gauge at 350 pSI. but had no info on the parameters of my ZF transmission... I will be taking my sheet from ZF to decipher...

On the transmissions. The BW's will lockup solid at 90 PSI according to ZF, I had to limp one 150NM with a bad oil pumpand at 100 psi. They will generally run between 200-240psi in gear. Out of gear generally 75PSI +/-. An alarm sender set at 25 or 50 psi should be fine. But your sender should be based on what gauge you have.....they make a sender for a 0-350psi gauge. Alarm sender should be a different sender. Same with engines, alarm sender should be a different sender. Engine oil pressure alarms are generally 5psi. But some 12v71's with hours will idle below 5psi in gear after running at cruise and I've had to switch to 2psi alarm senders before.

Thanks Capt. J... This info and my sheet from ZF should give me enough parameters to get the correct sender from Lauderdale Speedometer... (Yea)...
