    Pick it out

Pick out your teak or you will get whatever they grab and its not all perfect.. you must go to West Palm and do not go to the North Carolina outlet. Know what you are looking for.. FEQ1 tight vertical grain Burmese. "Plasteak" is to boats what polyester is to suits. If you lay teak make sure to acetone the wood real good before epoxy process. Use calk from Teak Deck systems.

As far as speed that is moving in a 41... frankly though we can really go... The 38 likes to cruise easy a 23.. the hull is quiet there... but you can do much more but where ya going anyway.... conserve fuel, blow beer :)

    Stuff

Swim platform was from an old Tiara, cut to fit, shaped, sanded and bleached... total cost $100.00. Bridge came from an old Silverton must say it matches the Roamer lines pretty well... but we had to cut and shape it. The bridge cost $200.00. But well, all said and done, of course not. What kills me is when some guys take the Roamer and come up with these weirdo mods and totally wreck value.

    Hi Homer
I finally came across a Roamer restored nearly as nice as yours (yours being the very best!). In Ohio, a 1964 Roamer Offshore 38 with Volvo diesels, called Seabiscuit. Beautiful boat like yours.

I’m hoping to be done with my 7 year opus and splash Caledonia in Lake Superior next July.
My original budget was $80k and 2 years, both have been exceeded, significantly.
I stripped my 1966 Roamer 37 Express down to bare hull, extended cabin top and enclosed the helm with an aluminum slider door. There is an electric windlass on a stainless steel bearing plate at the bow, dual 30v shore power connections. 2 new engines; Electronic Ignition Crusader 350’s, installed 2 @ 150 gallon aluminum fuel tanks, and a 6KVA diesel generator.
The hull was insulated with closed foam, white oak framing and tiger stripe maple and mahogany cladding. The floor is Santos Mahogany over plywood. I wonder how much the waterline will drop.
The layout consists of full double fore-peak bunk, shower stall, head and toilet, master cabin and kitchen with propane stove and refrigerator, enclosed helm salon, aft deck, swim platform with tip up hard dinghy.
There is an AC/heat pump, engine glycol blower/heater. and propane heater for the Lake Superior weather
Work left is: stain and varnish fore-peak cabin, anti-fouling, and nonskid deck paint, anchor chain, final electrical and mechanical.

    Wow....

That's a big change from the original. Looks like nice work. What have you learned... let me guess...? costs three times as much as you thought originally and takes 4 times as much time. A Roamer is only really nice if it is properly restored. So many just slap another coat of paint on them and they just are not right... still a stinkyish old boat. They must be taken down and built back, but unfortunately it is both time and cost prohibitive. I can say this, the aluminum hulls are good forever if taken care of. I also have learned that the Capoc system is a waste. All they do is run the batteries down. Thing to do is to have a good epoxy bottom, keep them dry inside and hang a large zinc, aluminum or magnesium overboard and hull test with silver-tipped diode. If the hull reads .095 to 1, it is neutral and safe plus will bubble Awlgrip less. Magnesium for fresh, Aluminum for brackish, Zinc for salt. It truly is this simple. Also drive savers are a good play to reduce vibration and isolate shaft from hull/engine.

There are a few people who have really done some incredible work though.

    Thanks for sharing.

I did what you did, Shutterfly, but resolution is not so good. This compression resolution problem software this YachtForums VB site fails to clearly explain is a pain. Gotta love software developers... never can or do well explain anything most of them... can we say: Asbergers.

Anyway, here is an interior update. The last 95% is very time consuming to get fit and finish excellence. I basically kept the original integrity, but brought it to current styles. The insulation is great with 3M Thinsulate. I just added the last Foam- backed ultrasuede headliner piece to the bow and installed the OceanAir shade/Screen into the new Offshore Bomar hatch. The chain locker is going to be a mirror that is laser etched Chris Craft and back-lit in bronze. The boat has 19 Imtra Portland 2 dimming lights, soft white, reds, blues..whatever you want....only 4 watts each at full blast.... AMAZING product.. super light and total ability to customize glow.

The bow had a custom fit foam/latex Tallolay bed. It is so well insulated now that a 200 watt personal desk heater keeps the bow warm when its cold outside. Still have the original 16 amp 16btu AC/heat pump as it was hardly used. It is under the bow and really freezes or steams the whole boat, but is an electric hog... so use the little heater instead for light use. I only have a 3.5 NextGen genset, but it is the way to go if you couple it with a Victron 3000 Multiplus with a 450amp AGM battery bank.... 185 pounds total with the Soundshield. This means one can pull 6500 watts with a tiny genset that only uses .20 at full load per hour. Highly recommend the small genset with this power sharing capability. Means lots less space, lot less fuel and lots less weight. I think Kabota makes the best little diesel engine ever. This thing only has 7hp and cranks out a storm of power with the Victron Multi-plus power sharing.... Victrons are truly incredible... once you see one and how it works, it is a must have.

Well, Cellular Bali drop blinds are next with bunched dummy Curtains accenting the corners. It has been a couple of years since I posted due to some pinko undesireables bantering on this thread. They will see who was a bit more vigilant in 2008 after the November 7th landslide.

Clicked on your Shutterfly link and

posted the result, in prior post.

    Was in hopes something magical

    would cause the pics to appear, now;

but, alas, was not the case.

Link requests a login or create an account, still.

P.S.- Tried post 413 and the same result.

Caledonia had success posting a link to his pics.

ok.... I think I figured it out... convoluted instructions at Shitterfly!! I will post when done. Gotta love it... like when your photos are too large, the dopes at VB just have a pop window simply saying "the photos are too large."
What they should have is a "click here to connect to photo compression tool"... BUT NO, they just leave ya hanging. Unless it is something you do frequently it is a head scratcher for many.
