We are completing the purchase of a 1998 Voyager 530. During the survey I noted water on top of a plastic bin stored just behind the port fuel tank. Going back into that corner looking up it appears that rainwater can enter directly through the vents mounted aft of the salon windows. There appears to be some kind of gutter system. But to my untrained eye this appeared to be a really weak attempt to manage water coming through those vents. Has anyone invented a fix to keep the water out or drain it away?

You're talking about the engine room vents? Water seldom comes in them on most boats due to the design Water & air hit a wall and are forced around it. The air goes around while the water drops and drains off. Several boats I've run also have a screen which further helps block the water. You could probably do a little retro-design work.

Thanks for the input. It does have the screens over the vent openings. When the sale is finalized I will spend some quality time investigating how the water is managed.

I have a Voyager 450 and believe the vents are similar to the 53. My vents have a drain hole at the bottom of the sealant around the vent assembly. Check to see if yours is clogged or if the prior owner sealed what looks like missing sealant. Also, on the port side of the rear of the fly bridge floor there is a drain that is piped down behind the vent area into and through the bilge and exits out onto the swim platform port side. Check for clog or cracked hose or fitting above the vent. By the way, the complete vent is removable by removing the sealant and the several screws holding it in and pulling out at the bottom. that may be the easiest way to see what is behind it.

    Good luck, Rich
