Great Pics Rodger, thanks for those.

I was on the Nisi 82's little sister the Nisi 17M Expresso last week in New England. She's a fast little girl, C-18's at 1136bHP and UltraJet 452's in her. I'll try to get some pics uploaded from my phone to add here.

I didn't realize that she was shipped to the Great Lakes this spring, I thought she came up on her own bottom from Florida. Looking good though.

Yes in early May six yachts were loaded onto a ship in Freeport Bahamas and unloaded in Detroit area, and Diva was one of them.
Last year a dealer in Sturgeon Bay WI tried to ship six yachts from Fort Lauderdale to the Great Lakes, but after the third ship never showed up they had to bring them on their bottom to the Great Lakes and summer was almost over by the time they got here. This thing about shipping yachts to the Great Lakes is cutting into my work but is a good idea.
Jefferson Beach use to unload the new Viking Princess and Sun Seekers in New York and bring them on their bottom to their Marina, now they ship them from England through Welland Canal and unload them in Cleveland Ohio, they have now done that the last two years.

It's a very good year considering all of the Erie canal closures due to flooding/erosion of the ****s the last couple of years. They had to load the freighter in the Bahamas, because if they loaded in the US they couldn't unload in the US again without stopping at a foriegn port first due to the Jones Act.

Motor yacht Bayou 128' departing lock 2 heading south for the winter, I think her fenders are just a little bit small and behind her is the tall ship 93' Halie & Matthew US flaged

Today we took M/Y Tinker Toy 72' Hatteras out four miles into Lake Ontario from the Welland Canal to load her onto M/V Flevogracht 136 M X 20 M from The Netherlands and she will be taking Tinker Toy to Palm Beach Florida.

    Rodger,

Great shots of Tinker Toy being loaded onto the ship bound for Ft. Lauderdale. From my experience, it seems more time efficient to take her down on her own bottom, but also know that a lot of owners would rather have the peace of mind and less wear and tear on the running gear to put her on a ship. Great shot of the props!

Algoma Quebecois heads for Port Colborne and scrap

11/20 - The scrap yard bound Algoma Quebecois left Toronto around 2 p.m. Tuesday bound for the Marine Recycling Corp. dock at Port Colborne, Ont. The tug Seahound was on the stern and the tug Lac Manitoba was on the bow. The weather was good, with sunny skies and a helpful northerly tailwind. Somewhere in the Welland Canal the tow will pass the downbound Algoma Montrealais, the Algoma Quebecois’ sister ship and now the last operating Canadian-flag steamer.

Wow. I had to look it up after seeing it to see what size it was. 730' x 75'. The largest that can fit in the St. Lawrence Locks and I'm guessing the largest to fit in the Welland Lock as well?

The Sea Way now has increased the size to 740' X 78'.
The lock is 80' wide by 745' long.
If you go to page 5 you will see the Algoma Guardian entering Lock 7 she has a 78' beam.

I always wondered what the graveyard of half dismantled boats were at the end of the seaway in Port Colborne. I thought they just parked them there, I didn't know they also scrapped them there as well.

It does fill the lock. Guess they don't have to worry much about moving around inside.

    Ice Welland Canal

To night there are four ships stuck above Lock 8 in Port Colborne.
This winter has been very cold and the water is 0 Celsius now and last year this time was 5.2 Celsius.
Ice has now stuck to lock walls, and as the lock is 80' wide and the ships are 78' wide there in not enough room for the ships. They have two tugs trying to scrape ice off lock walls. The canal dose not close until December 31/13.
Should be an interesting two weeks.

    Closing Welland Canal

The canal closed December 31/13 at midnight.
Today the Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker Griffon went up the canal removing all the lights from the buoys. They put a smaller tender boat in the canal to do the work.
When the ship clears the canal tonight they will then start to drain canal, it will take about four days to drain canal. Temperature tonight will be -14C
    Canal reopens March 25/14.
    Happy New Year.

Are those props on "Tinker Toy" a new standard design for Hatteras or an option??? Never seen so many blades on one wheel before.

    Some education please.

Why do they drain it? To work on the locks? Or to protect them somehow from the freezing water? To clean up trash?
