I've found that dead batteries like AA's seem to feel lighter than new ones. But I don't have anything to measure something that light so it's just seat of the pants.

Well duh ... all that electricity went away to make light or sound didn't it?

Doesn't your boat weigh less when the fuel tank is empty?

    There you go ...

What I could never figure out is how clouds of the stuff can just blow away when it leaks out.

Hope NYCAP123 is reading this, he now knows why he is only getting 175 volts, try measuring the power when it is not windy !

Well, how else could you make it lighter besides running the battery flat?

    Cut off the ends.

    Glue the ends back together.

Throw away all that unnecessary dead weight between the ends.

    The battery will be lighter.

If a wet cell, turn the battery over.

    Let the fluid drain.

    The battery will be lighter.

Today I tried 8 different A,AA,C,D batteries that all tested at 1.5v or higher. Dropped each of them from approximately 1" and 7 out of 8 fell over. Not sure if that was too high or what.
