    100' Hatteras Motor Yacht

I have been running a 2002 100' Motor Yacht part time for the past year. I just finished a delivery from Florida to NJ this past weekend. It is an increadible sea boat. Over the winter and on this delivery we experienced significantly nasty conditions and were never uncomfortable. She's a Brick SH*% House. Very Impressive. Looking forward to seeing the NEW 100 at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show this fall.

    Hatteras 100

I'm trying to get some more specs on this, other than from the website. I like the options with the MTU's, but don't know how the cruising and WOT speeds will be compared to the CL 100, Princess 103, etc. I also wonder how the quality and service will be for this one / these models with Brunswick actively trying to sell off Hatteras and Cabo.

I was sitting in my office trying to understand how this was the "NEW" 100 Hat. It took me a few minutes to think to my self to check the date stamp. To funny.

It will be great to see the new hat at the FLBS. I cant wait to see what to see more.

She's coming right along, and by the looks of the renderings, she will be impressive, and the speed options that I've found with the MTU's is inspiring for a Hatteras. I think they would look really good with a deep blue hull, white superstructure, and varnished teak cap rail, and oiled teak on the swim platform, flybridge, and aft deck.

Well from recent personal experience, I can say that their service is first rate.

How often does a 100'+ MY cruise at anything more than 10-12 knots. In all my travels, and I've spent 90 days in the Bahamas travelling around in the last 180 days, mostly Nassau, the bank, and exumas. I have never, not once seen a 90'+ MY on plane running. I did, one time, travel to Nassau on a 109' Johnson MY at 21 knots cruise the entire time. We then wasted 3 hours taking on fuel and ended up saving little time after that and we travelled 12 knots the rest of the way to St. Maarten.

I agree with you in the speed options, but if your 100'+ M/Y is capable of running on plane / semi-plane, then why not? My previous owners always wanted to be at 20+ knots. Granted, my last boat was a 108' Sunseeker Predator, but nevertheless, you gotta let the motors run like they were intended for sometimes. Also, my owners weren't onboard as much as I thought they should be, and fueling was never an issue, because he either wouldn't be onboard during, or wouldn't be around long enough to justify taking on fuel.

Lastly, and IMHO, time is money nowadays, so when the owner starts to look at a Yacht, then it is my job to help them decide if they want to have a 10-12kt Yacht or 20+ knot boat. There are pros and cons to both, but my goal, as the Captain to help them find the best possible match for their intended goals and investement.

Hatteras has a long history of providing great service. They can still provide blueprints and data on boats built 40 years ago, despite many corporate changes over the years, I don't think that's going to end anytime soon

Speed can come in handy sometimes when the owner or guests don't want to spend too much time underway. It all depends. Without guests I always run at 10kts as we save a lot of fuel that way. With guests we often do the Nassau - Norman run on plane to give them an extra 2 hours of playtime or to arrive before sundown so they can enjoy the sights otherwise most of the time once in the exumas the distances are so short it s 10kts which is more relaxed, less noise., etc... When we pick up in Gtown, we often run on plane back to Rat if in the sound, or to Staniel if on the bank.... Depends on the guests and time of the day

I have no doubt that Hatteras has a great reputation, I know many owners who are "hardcore" Hatteras owners, and would take them out in anything. I was at the factory when they were building the now "Bodacious" 77 S/F with triple CAT C-32's and they were very open to that project. Everyone thought that triple engines wouldn't work.

In terms of cruising speeds, I sometimes like the slower speeds, but at my age, I'm still kinda to the point where I like to get someplace fast, so I can enjoy the sights and sounds of the local marina / anchorage / restaurants. Plus, I like to get somewhere quickly, so I can get the boat cleaned up before dark, turn on the underwater lights, and just hang with the owner / guests. That's just me though.

    Delivery of a 100

To my knowledge, Hatteras hasn't yet delivered one of the new 100's. Does anyone have different knowledge? Does anyone know the schedule? Is there even one under construction? Or on order?

It looks like an incredible yacht even though not a fan of what I consider a dated Hatteras external styling. Still, I'm a seeing is believing type and withhold a real opinion until one is splashed and tested and reviewed.

Don't most of us want both?

Speed and economy. Let's see we started the thread with the old new 100 and now we're on the new new one.

Every boat is a compromise as none of them can do it all. However, don't you find more people wanting semi-displacement or planing versus the traditional displacement trawler? To me, the ideals of a boat in this size range are to be able to cruise at 18-20 knots and to be able to do an Atlantic Crossing at 10 knots or so. The cruising speed changes days. It allows a South Florida to Bahamas run by noon or early afternoon. It turns full day runs into half day runs. Now, I'm really curious to see what the range of this boat is at 10 knots. I'm afraid with only a 4,665 gallon tank the range will not be more than 2,000 nm if that.

I also am interested in the changes to come at Hatteras. To me the investment that must be made if they want to increase sales is an investment in some inventory. I don't see them increasing sales significantly without doing so. I'm not sure how many people are now willing to live with the long lead times. To me that's been a change in the large M/Y market. Manufacturers in this size range have better availability and boats to look at and take sea trials. Looking at other US manufacturers, Westport and Ocean Alexander (on the 112 and 120 manufactured by Christiansen) have inventory. Other manufacturers like Hargrave and Cheoy Lee have inventory. Then you get into what I consider the Mediterranean boats such as Ferretti, Sunseeker, and Princess and they each have availability.
