    Big Yacht repower

I cannot even guess the cost of such a repower. Just the labor hours would exceed the cost of the hardware. At what point in a boats life does it make sense to drop that amount of money? Really impressive video of the scope of the work involved in a repower.

Just take as an example WWII mine chasers that have been turned into yachts... Or, 20-30 year old oil platform service boats that have been turned into yachts, shadow yachts and explorer yachts...

Basically, as long as the hull is sound it's a question of what you want to do with the boat in the future and whether you have the funds...

I sent that video to my boss who's currently refitting a 56' Hat (but not to that extent). We see those kinds of refits on 90'+ steel hulls (and some Roamers:)), but it's rare on something that small and glass. Most people would say 'good money after bad' except that it's a Hatteras (and thankfully they're spacious enough to allow that kind of work). Doubt you'll ever see that on a 30 y.o. Carver or Azimut, but that Hat can probably live another 10 or 20 years, and you can't find anything like it today.

I know that boat and the yard. It is the yard owners personal boat.

I believe the video stated 24 knot WOT but did not mention cruise or fuel burn,

Thanks for posting that, it was a well produced video.

Then 19-20 knot cruise most likely.

What's interesting is that I docked in front of her every weekend for about 3 years before she was repowered and she NEVER exceeded 8knots in that entire time. So it really is cool to see that kind of speed. In retrospect it probably means the old power was "toast"
