A buddy of mine who is holed up in the Red Frog Marina in Bocas Del Toro, Panama asked me if I knew anything abiut Compass Rose an stunning expedition yacht that arrived there today?

    : Ship Photos

Other than some photos and threads wondering who she is I can't find out anything about her on ye old internet.

Does anyone have any scuttlebutt on this wonderfully equipped expedition yacht from Denver, CO like who built her, what are her accommodations on the inside like, her age dare I ask, her specs, photos of her interior, etc?

Built by C & G Boat Works, Mobile AL in 2011. Aluminum 139' per USCG doc - it's American flagged.

I may be mistaken, but I believe Motorboating did a feature on her about 2 years ago. It was an account of her world cruise. She was sold a few months after the cruise was completed.

160' Built in 2009, designed by D Marine in Florida, home port is Denver, Co., was listed for sale last year and got sold. I swear I had more than 20 shots of her, can't find any! Even had one of that Viking sport fisher being lowered to water. Nice boat with a nice collection of toys.
The rear gate concept is taken from whaling and net trawling boats, found also on Garfield (132' Dearsan Yachts, Turkey, built 2003).

Wasn't this the boat that was built in AL, then sat at ACY in Stuart for a year or two and they did her entire interior?

Right on the money there Capt.! The interior was completed after it got sold, the set of pictures I lost had the before "shack-like" interior and the after somewhat "face-lift" approach touchups. I think that for the purpose of moving toys to playgrounds it does a great job and is a nice boat, but other than her nice skin, it is far behind the pack, unless it was redone again in the last couple of years.

Thanks for all the great G2 on the apparently worldly Compass Rose which I will pass along to Bocas.

Please let us know if you think of anything else.

    Thanks!

Do you recall if she had a different name at the time and if so what it might have been?

Straining my brain and coming up short. It may have been Wind Song and it could have been Yachting. The article was sent to me so I'm checking to see if the guy who sent it has a better recollection. Will get back with any news.

Really cool yacht IMHO. It almost seems like a cross between an expedition yacht and a support vessel with its ability to carry all the toys (six by my count). Given the basic mission of an expedition yacht I would anticipate the accomodations might be a bit simpler than your typical yacht. Much more at home in either the Amazon River or in Alaska than Monaco.

Back in 2011 I had a job shooting the ship's new bell, made by Bellingham Bells in Maine. Didn't get a chance to tour the ship, but had a cool launching system for the sportfish.

Commercial is cool. It looks like it is meant to go instead of sitting someplace being wiped down every morning.

I love her dearly based on the outward appearance. Does anyone have any more information on how that launching system works? Does the platform lower or do they winch the boat up onto those rollers, is there a davit in range anywhere? Surely something big has to do some moving since they can't just drag it over that ledge.

So' as cool as it looks, it has to be an awful ride. It has a flat bottom. Yeah, like a paddle wheel riverboat. The platform completely submerges. First time they tried it, it went badly and they bent one of the big rams. They tried to force the platform underwater, with out filling it with water. Whole boat is a total cluster. I passed on interviewing for a position aboard.
