I found this interview (surprisingly in English!!) on YouTube....it is pretty cool to see the CEO's of these larger yacht builders sort of "let their hair down"....it is also great to hear a little about the history of the company as well as what makes up/influenced their business practices...after viewing this interview, my respect for Feadship (already high for the uber quality of their builds) has gone even higher after listening! Especially interesting as Mr de Vries mentions prices...which to me seem lower than you can read/hear elsewhere? (Some media sometimes like to exaggerate what large yachts cost to build I think)
Well, if I remember my math at this early hour (and Henk de Vries did not state either Euro or US$ so I will use $ as a reference) $25mm for the shortest (40m) to close to $200mm for the largest (close to 100m in length) that is roughly $625k per meter for the 40m and nearly $2mm/meter for the 100m....he said approaching 200mm so maybe considerably less than $2,000,000/meter which would seem excessively higher even for Feadship since a number of the top EU yards, to the best of my knowledge still charge around $1.3mm/meter If a 100m Feadship is truly 200,000,000 Euros, then at the current exchange rate ($1.00-1.30 Euro) that would make the 100m Feadship's price a tad under $258,000,000!! I know that Feadship builds superb yachts, but let's say that Oceanco charges around $1.3mm/meter; is that 100m Feadship $700,000/meter significantly better than a 100m yacht from Oceanco? I would have to wonder if it would be...if not, and I wanted to blow nearly $260mm, I would just go and purchase Oceanco's MY Nirvana and sail away happy in a drop dead gorgeous yacht instead of waiting 5-6 years to pay Feadship basically the same amount!!! Oceanco's Nirvana is for sale at a well known broker (Not sure if I can mention their name) for 230 million euros (or about 297 million US dollars, according to their site) Not sure if she was built for that amount of money, maybe her owner is a speculator? But if she was built for say 200 million euros, then a new Feadship of about 100 meters for the same price sounds like a good deal to me. Relatively speaking (I think Mr de Vries meant euros, not 100% sure)
Feadship Interesting remarks. Please be aware that the interview was for the Academy of Entrepreneurship of the universities in Amsterdam. As one of the supporters of this Academy and former student of the Free University in my home town, I did the interview with new students in mind as audience. Hence the remarks about having fun while studying On Feadship pricing, not really the subject in this thread, it is what it is. Most remarks here are off the mark. I have no desire to add to the confusion. And keep up the Forum! I do enjoy my visits here..
