    Hello buffalohunter,

I imagine Greenpeacers aren't big fans of buffalo hunters either. But I don't think you need worry much about that...yet...well, as far as I know, they don't yet have any prairie schooners out looking to challenge you. Or is it water buffalo that you hunt? In Baltimore?

Here are pics of some big motorsailing catamarans, representative of the latest advances in sailing yachts, like the Rainbow Warrior III, with A-frame masts for strength to support lots of furling sails for convenience and safety.

One of the biggest nuisances with sailboats is that the mast is usually right there in front of your face and the boom is right over your head, uh, that is, you're lucky if it's over your head instead of up side it. Anyhoo, both of them spars tend to stuff up the view when you're lollygagging in cockpit or saloon, but are especially annoying when you want to stay in shelter and still see where you're going. That's especially true of older sailors who'd like a 50/50 world, i.e., sail when it's nice, get indoors and motor when it ain't nice.

Another advantage for an A-frame mast: it's not right in your face. And a cat has plenty beam for sheeting down to the boat, so no boom needed.

See below for how The Missus handles sailing from the cockpit and how The Old Man maneuvers .

That's not the same "Hetairos" as in the first video you know.. That one was built by Baltic I think. The one in the above link is by A&R.

The one built by Baltic is huge! She was one of I think three sup-sized sailing vessels launched in the last 2 years, "Vertigo" Alloy, "Hetairos" by Baltic and the other "Aglaia" by Vitters. Disco we are here to learn from each other right!? That helps makes YF such a lovely place to congregate at, virtually.

The bit of the bulb that got stuck in the rocks had t be removed because of environmental issues. It seems a couple of tons of lead in a nature reserve is unwanted...

I had forgotten about this subject thread,....such a collection of beautiful sailing ships. I was looking for more postings on this one in particular, ADELE, and found this very nice PDF that AMG had posted,...thanks for that.

I also found this rather extensive website about this vessel, with lots of photos and stories

    Adele

Adele is one more example of those beautiful large classical sailboats, build only for one purpose. One or two big cruises around the world an then being sold. I find it very sad, that the owners of those marbles are not able to build up more relationship to her masterpieces of traditional shipbuilding. IMHO, they should keep and using them for a longer period of time. You do not build a beautiful house either, just in order to give one party in it and then sell it to highest bidder.

Sorry, but I am a wholehearted blow boater. This is one, I like.

Yes, I know but I just wanted to say, that I like Meteor. Sorry, I should have stated her name on my post. I do not know why, but every time I think of a beautiful sailboat, Royal Huisman boats come into my mind.
