Not sure if this is a repost but this is the latest I've seen from PJ UK. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=191&t=888428&mid=109976&nmt=Superyacht - what is it?
I hope the captain has an augmented sight system to see over that bow! In other news... that was the last PJ to be built in the UK facility. According to the newswire, they are closing down the operation. I sent an email off to Mike for confirmation. No word yet.
Hi, Here is a newspaper article from the Yuk. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/8322205.Superyacht_jobs_axed/ I have e mailed a guy I know who works there to see what the actual story is on the ground.
It looks like two different styles of boat grafted together, weird. You are not kidding about the sight lines. Or lack there of.
Do you think a pair of Bi-focal eyeglasses mounted on the bow may help? The little old ladies in the parking lot seem to use them for maneuvering their Accords with such great care.
All I can say is that I'm glad I'm not in one of those smaller boats out there, with this giant thing blasting around with the captain basically blindfolded.
Citing the world economy, PJ's has closed down operations in their Hampton yard and is shifting all projects to the Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin yard which currently has some excess capacity. However, Mike Kelsey did note the desire to continue with plans to develop their Woolston site when the international yacht market fully recovers. (Via IBI News)
Hi, He replied that his and a lot of others jobs finish officially next Friday but he will be on holiday so he will be finished this Friday 13th August. I have known this guy more than 20 yrs, it is unfortunately not the first shipyard he has worked at that has closed down.
The bow resembles that of a '40s-'50s era battleship. Neat! Too bad about the rest of her As I've said before, the owner has final say on design.
http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/future-yachts-concept-boats/10032-new-palmer-johnson-170-renderings.html Surprised it made it past the renders that way. Lower deck portholes look to get very wet also.
Most of the staff from the Hyth, Southampton yard have been made redundant. Just a few left (finishing next week) to finish off the 170, which is metallic gold BTW.
Not sure if I posted this before but here is a PJ170 DB9 in her PJ video/photoshoot. Palmer Johnson 170 DB9 - YouTube
