They have to lift off roof of the dock though!

Oops! Project "Topaz", a real beast and Lürssens 2. biggest yacht, is already launched! Lürssen did an exceptional with her launch only one year after the hull and superstructure were finished.

I think she looks as elegant as a 144m yacht with more than 11,000 tonnage can look - much better than "Al Salamah" or "Al Said". Her stern on the maindeck catched straight away my eyes and she has with the big pool and other arrangements big similarities with Dubai.
All in all I think she looks like an inflated "Mayan Queen IV" but still nice.
    What do you think?

She might not be a royal yacht like Al Salamah or Al Said.

It does not matter whether the yacht is royal or not. I compared them because they have more or less the similiar size and a similar concept based on a huge volume.

I said that because royal yachts (of this size) tend to be bulkier, with an high volume and few open-deck spaces. Which isn't the case of Topaz as far as I can see (she has plenty of open-deck space and she doesn't look like a ferry IMO).

I noticed that she has 10 exhaust pipes. A diesel-electric "heart", perhaps?

Wow she has a lot of volume. front looks big.

Not really pretty, but far from ugly.

She isn't the prettiest but she is beautiful as well. The SAT COM domes throw off her looks but she looks like a cross between "Al Said", "Dubai", "Mayan Queen IV", "Pelorus", "Valerie" etc. I wonder if she is going to be all white. It sure looks odd that the 'grill' to the aft of the nameplate is painted bronze and nothing else on the yacht is. I wonder if the walls of the superstructure are masked in that colour but covered in a white protective film? I don't know Just find it odd that the styled grill stands out in that colour.
Her aft main deck and transom are definitely reminds us of Dubai's transom area. She also looks as she will be carrying quite a few tenders as well. If you look on the metal grill on the aft main deck you will see that can open up much like Dubai, Pelorus etc does and reveal tender storage. Tender storage also appears to be midships on the deck under the bridge deck. Tender storage in the bow where those gull-wing doors are. Possibly even on the aft lower deck as there are doors there but who knows that might be a large beach club area.

It shure looks odd but I doubt the superstructure is painted in bronze because it is not too unusual that the grill makes a pleasant contrast to the overall design and it is probably more insensetive than white... another odd thing is that the beach platform is light grey, so does everything else of the hull has a protective film?

I just think we should wait in the next month or two when she would be getting closer to completion. We would then see all the mysteries revealed.

She looks interesting for sure. If you look at some of the photos available, it looks like she has a lot of hull openings for terraces and such. To me, she seems too short for her height and the stern. I think it would look better if some meters were added to the end to have a sleeker stern. The wheelhouse looks like that from the Amels 242 series.

Edit: She also reminds me of the Blohm & Voss 124m explorer yacht in relation to the bridge and stern. Also, I would recommend checking out that webshots link again...

Edit #2: Just a little speculation here but wasn't Pelorus originally designed for the owner of Coral Island and then sold after launch? If so, there is similar styling here and she could be the replacement and would fit the bill for a high-volume yacht.

The limo tenders! Maybe that is the one that will be going amidships on the upper decks behind the collapsable bulwark. The tender looks similar to that of "O'mega's"(post refit). Overall Project "Topaz" is an eyefull, lots of details to take in..and she is no where near finished yet...still more external details to be added.

Yes you are correct. I was always wondering who made those tenders so thanks for the link.

There seems to be a disguised name-board on the outside of the top deck - the format looks similar to that on the current 5KR?

Yes the nameplate is covered in a tarp to hide the name or insignia. A common practice for some builders to do when they do not want the wider public (expecially those sneaky yacht spotters) to know the name of the newly launched vessel before they are ready to reveal it themselves.

She is a beast! Very large yacht but from certain angles she doesn't look as large as possibly 485-feet. She is very stylish...the only thing that I do not like fully is the SAT COM balls and how they are placed...they look out of place.
