  2. So...

    After disasters:
    1. COSTA CONCORDIA sunk
    2. COSTA ALLEGRA out of run, because machinery fire
    3. COSTA VOYAGER got fire in some passenger cabins

    then

    meanwhile solutions:
    1. COSTA CONCORDIA seems to be out of market for at least 1 year.
    2. COSTA ALLEGRA goes out of Costa Crociere fleet, sold or scrapped.
    3. CARNIVAL DESTINY turns to be COSTA DESTINY in 2012 meantime

Carnival announced on 6 March that they would renovate the CARNIVAL DESTINY 1996 for an unprecedented U.S. $ 155 million and get a complete CARNIVAL SUNSHINE 2013 back on track, so renamed as it would be a new ship, but only a huge refit. I'm told, CARNIVAL DESTINY, almost identical projects or sister ship of Costa Magica 2004 will later this summer be on the Costa fleet with a few brush strokes to turn COSTA DESTINY 2012. Apparently the booking situation is so overwhelming that the Italians need a replacement for the COSTA CONCORDIA haste. Diagram of comparing shows:

But are those SBT are selling for $500+ per pound? SBT are not a fish that sells for the same as ABT might. Besides that very few ABT sell for $500+ per pound. The Japanese do not want sashimi fish caught in a net- it's not good for the meat quality to be net hauled. The OP with this pricing argument is pounding sand- which was my point. I should have been more specific.

  5. ^ probably forgotten, as every incident like that. Unfortunatly the Old Captain & Crew did not went to jail for ever yet, it seems. I didn't read anything about. The wreck will stay there for at least 1 year I think after the movement about Oil. Then waves brake it down like American Star in Fuerteventura
AS EVER JUSTICE IS BLIND ! See only the poors to go in pillory. That is also true to Costa Crociere who is selling tickets as never again, I heard...

It looks quiet today but in the last few days it looked like they were pumping more oil off. I've been checking the webcam most mornings while I have my coffee and toast.

    Hi,

No new as such but there was a great TV show on the other night that had plenty to say about ship disasters in general with a particular questioning of the experience of what was referred to as the Hollywood Captain of Concirdia. One commentator says that as he only has 6 yrs setime he should be on a 40ft tugboat not a 1000ft Cruise Ship.

It was shown on CHannel 4 UK TV so might well turn up on a TV near you soon.

I saw that too. I don't normally like these documentaries because they are often made by people with no experience of the subject and poor research - but this one was very good. Members might be able to see it online for a few more days at 4OD. I know that works in the UK but not sure about elsewhere.

The pumping of bunker fuel ended ten days ago and since then there has been little activity except a daily hoovering of 'overspill' and some ongoing internal 'work'.

It is good to hear that a salvage bid might have been accepted. I doubt very much if she will be left to rot and I suspect the salvors will want to take full advantage of this summer's weather conditions.

    Hi,

The site will see your IP Address and determine you are outside the UK.

You could sign up for what myself and many others do which is a VPN Service, this enables me to watch things in the US and UK when I am in neither location or you could try an IP hiding type program , the downside of this will be if the site you are looking at is itself looking for a certain IP range. This doesn't happen with a targeted VPN

This was "The Queen of The North" BC Ferry. We were on it just a few weeks prior to this sinking. We hear that an older couple could not be found and the story was that they went below to fetch their pet in their vehicle and never made it to the lifeboat.

They allude to damage of the hull on the starboard side but then make no provision to deal with it. I'm still betting she will be cut up in place.

Look at 1:16-1:28. They show the ship perched precariously on the rock it's grounded on. That has to be doing damage.

    Hi,

If you read the link posted by Ken Bracewell in Post 286 you will see that a big stipulation of the salvage contract is to move it in one piece and tow it to Genoa.

The article goes on about the huge cost compared to cutting it up being less than the potential costs to the environment of cutting her up in situ.

You never know give it a few years nadir might be back on the circuit with a different name/ operator.

It wouldn't be surprising at all.

The first cruise I ever took was aboard a ship that had once been completely destroyed by fire, and once run aground and partially sunk.

    Hi,

There has just been another TV Show on UK Channel 4 TV that showed a lot of videos from passengers/crew and emergency services during the abandonment of the vessel.

There was also some pretty telling commentary between the first Helo crew Pilot/Co Pilot and the Port Captain and the now infamous Ship Captain.

The sub titles used for the translation often had more asterixes than YF :D

In '93 we were at the Fincantieri Genoa yard in Italy. The ship in the next drydock was the old Achille Lauro cruise ship. As you looked across the main deck you could still see the bullet holes where the Arab terrorists had shot the wheelchair bound victim that had been targeted.

    Nothing is new.
