    Hi,

I will spend about a month in Ft. Lauderdale, and I will need a phone during my stay.

What are the options for such a short period of time?

I heard that you can buy a phone from Metro PCS for about $100. Don't know if there are any other cheaper alternatives.

I have a tri band phone that I can use anywhere in the world, but not sure how or where I can buy a chip for it and if I need to make a contract for it.

    Thank you for your answers.

I am not sure if you have to buy a phone from Metro or can just use their SIM card or etc. But they have no contract and like $40 for unlimited calls, data, texts per month......

You can get a cheap Tracfone and 60 minutes airtime at Walmart for about $40

You can also get a $10.00 phone from MetroPCS and unlimited text and talk for $40.00.

    Capt. J and wscott52,

I know for sure that you can not use Metro chips on another phone, even tri bands.
I think they sell the phone for $40 + $40 for the plan you mentioned.

$10 is the price after mail rebates.

    Thanks for replying.

There is a cell phone shop on 17th Street on the mainland side of the bridge. It's on the north side next to Georgio's restaurant. They help a lot of yacht crew. You can get a T-Mobile sim card there for your phone for a good price.

straighttalk has Nokia smartphones with full keyboards, unlimited talk, text, and internet for $45 a month, you can go to the nearest walmart and browse or go to the websites and get shipped to your door in 2 weeks.

EDIT: forgot to say it's prepay no contract. This is the new hot one people are dropping their contracts for.

Saw that. Didn't realize your concern was more out of pocket expense than ultimate cost.
