"Hanuman" is the latest J-Class yacht to be built and she was only delivered recently. She is the reincarnation -if you will- of the "Endeavour II", a previous J-class yacht as well. Here is some news of her and what she has been doing since delivery.

Agreed. At least we still have builders that can build in the spirit of the past with modern advances. As I have always said, initially I never really liked classic boats since I grew up around relatively modern box yachts so never been exposed per-se to the classic craze of the early twentieth century.

However, with many builders and owners taking up the mantle to regenerate the classic craze, several builds have emerged in the last 10 years to say the least. I think it is this that really caught my attention especially so with "Nero" and "Anatolia". Seeing the detail on the "Erica", "Hanuman" kept me interested!

i remember the first time i saw the restored/rebuilt Endeavour, that was right after her restoration around 1990 I think. I lived on St Barths back then and she was a frequent visitors. She raced a couple of time in the Route du Rosé round the island regatta and it was just a real treat. Expecially back then when the "average" yacht was much smaller!

The first thing you'd see driving up the hill from the airport and into Gustavia was her tall mast, towering above everything else.

Nothing compares to the elegance and beauty of J Class.

last month in Newport we went for quick tender ride around the harbor and saw Hanuman at the dock, her long bow just jutting out from behind what was a beautiful yacht but which didn't even even compare.

Hats off to the owners and restorers who are helping preserving, and reviving, our heritage.

    "Rainbow" hull turned

Construction on the J-Class "Rainbow" reached another milestone with the hull-turning process. "On the 12th of March the hull of the Dykstra & Partners designed J Class Rainbow has been turned at Bloemsma Aluminiumbouw in Makkum. Rainbow will be transported by barge to HJB when the hull is ready."

The hull stands already at the Bloemsma Aluminiumbouw area. Over a month after turning the hull. Is it normal that it takes so long?

I will see that one finished :)

The hull today. Seems to be ready for transport:

Yacht lines have never been so beautiful!

Sure, the racing yachts of today may be faster, more efficient, or whatever... but they will never be quite that spectacular looking.

    J-class

The beauty & style of J-class yachts like Endeavour, Velsheda & Shamrock V are beyond words. I sailed on Endeavour in 1989 from St. Barth's & she is such a joy & as easy to sail as a modern 36' yacht.

    Endeavour In Norfolk, VA

As I was going through some old family photo albums I came across some shots of Endeavour docked at Waterside in Norfolk, VA shortly after Elizabeth Meyer had completed her restoration. My Dad being a salty sailor took my Mom reluctantly in tow to see Endeavour. Here are some shots they took of her from stem to stern and back again while on their expedition.

This was the first time Dad had ever seen one of these new fangeled types of "triangle" booms and was amazed at how wide it was.

    12.jpg

So wide in fact that the crew could easily walk from one end of it to the other!

Holy Cow! I am getting dizzy just looking up to the top of her mast.

    17.jpg

And just how tall is that mast you ask?

According to her information sign it is 165'. It sure looks a lot taller than that to me!! Yikes!

    18.jpg

Norfolk is the land of tortoise shell glasses, club ties, blue blazers, and kahki pants.

    19.jpg

Dad strikes a pose! He is such a natty dresser sporting a bow tie and white linen hankie!

    20.jpg

    Doesn't Mom look excited?!?!?!

    She is excited all right.

Excited that she does not have to get on Endeavour and go for a sail!
