Hey! Guys, as you see, the clips in the pics to fix the life buoy are not good-looking or strong enough. Does anyone know or have good ideas on how to fix the life buoy on the guardrail in the pics? It needs to be nice, convenient, and inexpensive. Thanks very much!
Cheap cable ties, 75 cents. I would think the ties would break and free the ring before you could un-wrap the Velcro. A properly sized ring hook would be the better choice.
Negative on the cable ties. They can be pretty strong, especially in a hurry and with gloves on. They'll also scratch the rail. Velcro straps around where the lines meet and the rails at 3 spots, with about 1" overlay will hold it securely, but are easy to undo or will pull apart if you just rip the life ring.
Perko ring buoy holders are made for this application. Two support the bottom of the life ring and a third supports the top. Gravity does the rest. No anxieties regarding warps or wraps.
Hi, You could also take to wearing it at all times. This would save any problems with mounts and make your chances of survival better than anyone else's on-board.
Hey! Guys, Thanks very very very much for your valuable advice above! Stainless steel perko ring buoy holders are good; they are good-looking, convenient for use, but expensive. Cable ties are not bad; they are cheap and don't look bad, but not convenient for use, especially in emergency. What's more, they would scratch the paint of the rails. Velcro wraps are the best; they are nice, convenient, and cheap. So we will use them. Have a great weekend! Cheers, Jason
It could be both cold, wet and above all dark when you need to use it, why I think you should invest 50 USD in the real thing...
Those plastic rail mounts crumble after a while in harsh sunlight. I've had to replace them before and hardly anyone carries the Perko or Plastimo ones, thus you have to send away for them. A royal pain in the........ Why not get a similar set welded up in stainless? You are in China, should not cost that much.
Am I missing something here? It looks like you are a boatbuilder in the final stages before delivery. Is that correct? If so, and you are selling that boat, why on Earth are you trying to save $50 on something that not only has to secure a piece of life saving equipment in a way that doesn't hinder its immediate use by a person who may know nothing about how it is secured, but has to look good as well? Is there less than $50 profit? If saving a couple of dollars on this item is so important, where else has this kind of "economy" been applied?
